Pioneer Coal Company at Kettle Island

My grandfather Jake Brown (b. 1892 d. 1951) and my father Ed Brown (b. 1924 d. 1967) both worked at the Pioneer Coal Company. I know it was in operation between 1912 and 1949 with 300 employees. Jake probably worked there for many years. My father Ed probably in the late 30's early 40's just before he went into the Army. I believed they lived in company housing near the mine. My grandfather Jake had a peg leg, from a mining accident. Someone told me he was the blacksmith for the mine.

I have the book "Images of America Bell County" published by Arcadia, but am disapointed that it doesn't show anything about the mine which must have been an important part of the community.

I was wondering if anyone has any old photo's they would like to share on line or with me and any stories about the mining community before this piece of history is lost.

Thanks.
