Richard Purvis, 36, of Versailles, IN passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at his residence. He was born at New Albany on November 27, 1968 the son of Ernie and Nancy Napier Purvis. He was married to Bobbi Shelton on July 18, 1998 and she survives. Survivors include one daughter Megan Purvis at home; parents Mike and Nancy Daugherty of Versailles; sister Denessa (DeeDee) Benkie of Versailles; brother Bryce Purvis of Cincinnati; half-brothers Steven Purvis of Lexington, Kentucky and Jeff Purvis of Bear Branch; half-sister Robin Naegele of Lanesville. He was preceded in death by his father Ernie Purvis and his maternal grandmother Ruth Napier. Mr. Purvis was a 1987 graduate of South Ripley High School and had been an equipment operator for the Southeastern Indiana REMC since 1987. He was a member of the Versailles Volunteer Fire Department and was currently serving as chief. He was also a member of the Ripley County Fire Chiefs Association, Indiana Fire Chiefs Association and had been a member of Rescue 69 and Task Unit I.
Funeral services were held Saturday June 18, 2005 at South Ripley High School. Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to a fund for Megan Purvis in care of the funeral home.
