William “Slugger” Mc Knight, 72, of Princeton, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 10:30 p.m., at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, following a long illness.

Born Jan. 28, 1940, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Nelson McKnight Jr. and Mattie Elizabeth Pruett McKnight Orten, he was a retired truck driver for Hudson Trucking and a member of Highland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Lynn McKnight Hargrove; a stepdaughter, Christy Newberry; a brother, James Robert McKnight; and a sister, Sandra Kay Slaton.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jones McKnight; two stepsons, Stewart Newberry of Princeton and Gary Lee Travis of Texas; a stepgranddaughter, Emily Christy Newberry; a stepgrandson, Collin Reese Newberry; two brothers, Doug Green of Princeton and Dickie Green of Caldwell County; four sisters, Sue Prince and Corinne Gilkey, both of Caldwell County, Edith McKinney of Princeton and Charlene Towery of Florence; a niece reared by him, Shannon Wadlington Jennings of England; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

Burial will follow in Castleberry Church Cemetery.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to the funeral hour at the funeral home.
