Al A. Whitaker, 69, of Lyon County, died at 9:10 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014, at Baptist Health in Paducah, following a long illness.
Born Nov. 21, 1944, in Kentucky, a son of Cynthia Wireman Whitaker of N. Vernon, Indiana, and the late Thomas Benton Whitaker II, he was a pipefitter with Local Union 633. He was a veteran, a member of the American Legion and of VFW Local 633.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl Whitaker, and Donald G. Howard, and a sister, Carlotta R. Whitaker Garwood.
Survivors include his wife Denise Traylor Whitaker; four sons, David Whitaker and wife Vic of New Tazwell, Tenn., Jonathan Whitaker and wife Robin of Seymour, Ind, Joshua Brantley and Justin Brantley, both of Lyon County; two daughters, Katherine Whitaker Smith and husband Allen of New Tazwell, Ind., and Aimee Renee Wellman of Nebo.
He is also survived by a brother, Max P. Howard of Indianapolis, Ind., and two sisters, Gordenell and husband Dick Grinner of Butler, Ind., and Deborah Ann Murphy of N. Vernon, Ind.; several grandchhildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with Bro. Patrick Yates officiating assisted by Bro. Bobby Dean Cotton.
Burial will follow at Fredonia Cemetery.
