NILES, Ohio – Olive Crank, 101, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital ICU.
Olive Richards Crank was born Nov. 21, 1911, in Olive Hill, Carter County, Ky.
She was the first daughter and first child of 11 to Charles Edward and Laura Gertrude (BoCook) Richards.
She married Thomas Crank Sr. on Dec. 24, 1926, with Tom T. Hall’s grandfather, Elijah “E.T.” performing the wedding ceremony. Together they raised three boys and one daughter.
Thomas died June 14, 1977, after sharing 53 years of marriage together.
Olive was a member of the Evansville Baptist Church in Mineral Ridge, Ohio.
She did many crafts throughout her life and was known by many besides her family as “Grandma Crank.”
Olive is survived by son, Ronald (Marsha) Crank of Niles, Ohio; son-in-law, Joseph Billey of Niles; daughter-in-law, Sandra (William) Nichols of Alliance; 10 grandchildren, Mary Lou Readshaw, Patricia (Steven) Ard, Richard Crank, Joseph (Karen) Billey, Larry (Joann) Crank, Ronald Crank, Robin Abbas, Christine Tallman, Mark (Brenda) Crank and Michelle (Craig) Tomko; 17 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Bertha E. Carpenter of Niles, Alberta Ingles of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Betty (Harold) Bailey of Hitchens, Ky. and Aileene Thompson of Moorehead, Ky.
Olive was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Bobbie at birth, Ralph G. and Thomas Crank Jr.; daughter, Trudy Billey; brothers, Edward, Arthur and Paul Richards; sisters, Garnet Coleman, Lillian Shorts, Jenny Carroll and at birth, Janet; and grandsons, Michael and David.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 2, 2013, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel, with a funeral service starting at noon with the Reverend Richard Mospens officiating.
Interment will follow at Kerr Cemetery.
