Most of the Sagraves of Eastern KY are descendents of Joseph Sagraves and Mary Jones. From VA and NC they show up in Knox Co., KY by 1805. They were in a part of Knox Co. which was cut off to Harlan Co.
About 1825 they went to Flat Gap, KY in Johnson Co. (then Lawrence Co.). They are said to be buried in unmarked graves at the Sagraves cemetery at Flat Gap. Their sons lived in Johnson, Lawrence, Elliott and Carter counties of KY.
Most of Joseph and Mary’s descendents spell their name Sagraves while most other families in the US spell it Seagraves or other variations.
