William Luther PRICE, son of Gabriel and Eliza Ann GARRARD PRICE was born 24 Apr 1835, in London, Clay Co.[sic][Laurel Co.]He arrived in Sonora, Queen of the Southern Mines, with some of the first cattle brought over the plains to Sonora. He married Margaret Theresa "Polly" McQUADE, daughter of George and Elizabeth McDONOUGH McQUADE,who were among the earliest of the 49ers to arrive in CA by ship. They were Irish who came via Australia and New Zealand. Polly was a newborn infant on her arrival. Polly's brother became sheriff of Tuolumne Co. of which Sonora is the county seat.
They had 8 children:
Robert Lee who married Louisa BRUNET, CA pioneer family from France. He also was sheriff of Tuol. Co.
Elizabeth Lucinda "Bessie" who married Ellsworth KEPHART who came from Iowa.
Gabriel William "Gabe" Price who married Eva LAGUE and who made a fortune in the Nome Gold Fields, Alaska gold rush.
Georgiana Belle "Goergie" Price who didn't marry.
Francis Bartlett "Frank" Price who married Lottie ALLEN. They were in Nome, as was Gabe, in 1900 census.
James Tilden Price who married Winifred WARD. They met in Nome when "Til" had interest in same mines as his brother, Gabe.
Katherine Martha "Kate" Price who married Michael Sullivan from another early pioneer family in CA.
Geneva A."Genie" Price who married Edward Arthur RYDBERG, a rancher from neighboring Stanislaus Co. Ed was one of 7 chldren. His mother, Margaret Ann DONOHUE b. CA 1854. Her parents, James and Annie DONOHUE arrived in the gold country in 1852.
His father, Joseph Alef RYDBERG b. Sweden in 1844 arrived in NY 1853 and in CA in 1863
Geneva and Ed are my grandparents. They had 5 children, the second and oldest son, was my father, Joseph Alef Rydberg. He married my mother, Mary Evelyn STEVENSON descendent of 4 other pioneering CA families, two from Bluegrass country KY.
