Peter JANUARY--b. New Castle, De/Pennsylvania c. 1720 PA, or 1725, d. Woodford Co.2/26/1787 OR Lexington, Fayette Co., KY c. 1810. He was the son of Mary Crosse/ Susannah ? and Thomas Janvier/January. He served in the Colonial Army during the Revolutionary War, enlisting in Capt. McLlwainÂ’s (McElwainÂ’s) Company, Third Battalion of Philadelphia Association (Muster Roll dated Dec. 6, 1776 in Penn. Archives, Vol. 13, page 517). Later he was Ensign of the First Company, Fourth Battalion (Lt. Col. Paul Cox, 1780, in Penn. Archives, Vol. 13, page 744). The US War Dept. has no act of service on the part of Peter January, however the fact of his promotion from private to Ensign is presented as full evidence of his able and loyal service. He served public service in Va. He was married 4/2/1753, to Deborah McMahon (b. c. 1725, Cumberland Co., Pa, d. after 1787 or c. 1760. Daughter of James McMahon and Mary ____), had Sarah January, James Martin, Ephraim, Hannah, Samuel, John, Deborah, Nancy, and Andrew.
James Martin January--b. Pennsylvania 1756, died 8/21/1824 Jamestown, Oh. He was the son of Deborah McMahon and Peter January. James was in the Battle of Blue Licks, KY, the last engagement of the Revolution, which he narrowly escaped with his life. He tied his horse to what he thought a rotten limb and when retreat sounded, he had not the time to untie his horse, and the limb was too strong to be broken. He escaped by jumping on a horse behind Capt. Robert Patterson and crossed the Licking River. No citation can be found in printed volumes of this battle, but the incident was of general notoriety. James married, 1784, Fayette Co., KY, Susan Huston (d. 1855-- was the daughter of William Huston and Jane Steele). James was of Maysville, KY. They later moved near West Union Co., Ohio; then near Jamestown, Green Co., Ohio. Together they had 13 children--Robert, Sarah, Thomas, James, Mary, Nancy, Elizabeth, Jane, Malinda, Samuel, Ann, Joseph Huston, and William.
Mary/Polly January--She married, Fayette Co, 22 Apr. 1800, Moses Wilson. She was the daughter of Ephraim and Sarah (McConnell) January.
Andrew McConnell January--b. 8/3/1794, d. 6/11/1877 Maysville, Ky. Married, Fayette Co, 31 Dec 1816, Sarah Huston (b. 12/15/1799, d. 4/8/1867. daughter of William Huston and Elizabeth Bratton, Fayette Co., KY). They had William Huston, Elizabeth, Sarah Anne, Ephraim, Andrew II, Isabella, Andrew Henry, Harriet Frances January, George Washington, Robert Grundy, John Shackleford, Richard, and Horace. He was the son of Ephraim and Sarah (McConnell) January.
Pierre Janvier--b. 1728 Paris France d. 10 May 1802 Fayette Co. KY. He married Margaret ____. Peter was a Huguenot. They had 3 sons, Thomas, James B., Derick Peterson. He was the son of Pierre Janvier SR, and wife (possibly Claude Marie D'Elboenf.
