BOONEVILLE, Miss – Russell Richard Burdette Sr., 70, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at his home. He was born July 9, 1942, in Greenup, Kentucky to Norman Milton Burdette and Florence Mae Donaldson Burdette.
He was a career United States Army veteran, with service in the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Marksmanship Badge.
He was kind and loving and would give anyone in need the shirt off of his back. He especially loved little children.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Moore Burdette, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1967; two sons, Russell Burdette Jr. and R.C. Burdette, both of Booneville; a daughter, Beth Ann Torrence of Booneville; three brothers, Terry Burdette (Amanda), Bill Burdette (Pete) and Jim Burdette, all of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Betty Stewart and Pearl Abeena (Joe), all of Columbus, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; a special brother-in-law, James Ellis Moore (Brenda) of Dewberry, Fla.; four special children that he claimed as his grandchildren, Mallory Glendy, Miracle Dunn, Peyton Hodge and Morgan Floyd.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Mike Reeves and Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Shady Grove Cemetery
He was preceded in death by his parents: and a brother, Bob Burdette.
Pallbearers are Jeff Guin, R.C. Burdette, Kenny Floyd, Stewart Hodge, John Ross Lindley and Timmy Webster.
