My father, Norman Carter opened the Blue Lantern in the 1950's. It was a Mom & Pop type place that served breakfast, blue plate lunch specials and dinner. He opened another business and decided to lease the restaurant. It changed names in the early 60's to the Blue Steer Steak House. The building was leased to Jim Swanson, then later to Larry Portaro. The Portaro family served really good steaks, seafood and sandwiches. He was Italian so he knew how to make killer garlic bread and spaghetti. He sub-leased the property in the mid 80's (which he did unlawfully) and it went downhill from there. We lived in the stone house adjacent to the restaurant. The property is now owned by my brother and has fallen into disrepair.
