Hi Cousin! I descend from Carl's sister, Alma. Was it your grandfather, Carl, that ran the little store/post office in River? I remember walking over there as a little girl and we were all given free sodas.
Here's what I have on the Wards... anything after the 5th generation is pure speculation. I haven't been able to "prove" anything after James & Irena Ward. Some of the sentences are a little strange... my program "makes" a book for me and sometimes what I put in as notes don't match it's "format" of words that it adds... you should still be able to figure it out!
FIRST GENERATION

1. Paris WARD was born on 21 Nov 1881 in Kentucky or Virginia.1 He died on 3 Sep 1952 in Johnson County, Kentucky.2 He was buried after 3 Sep 1952 in Banjo Branch, Johnson County, Kentucky.3 He was a machinest--creating power for the coal miners in Pennsylvania and Kentucky.4



SECOND GENERATION

2. Ransome WARD was born on 5 May 1848 in Virginia or Kentucky.5,6,7,8 Gravestone lists birth year as 1849 He died on 23 Nov 1919 in Johnson County, Kentucky.9 He was buried in 1920 in Ward Cemetary, Banjo Branch, Johnson County, Kentucky.10 He died in Jan 1920.11 He was German. He was a Farmer. He was living in Williamsport, Johnson County, Kentucky. He was married to Elizabeth Jane MEAD(E).

3. Elizabeth Jane MEAD(E) was born in 1860 in Johnson County, Kentucky.12,13,14 She died on 4 Feb 1933 in Johnson County, Kentucky.15 Ransome WARD and Elizabeth Jane MEAD(E) had the following children:

i. Elliot WARD was born on 8 Jul 1878 in Johnson County, Kentucky.7,16 He died in 1918 in Johnson County, Kentucky.17

Margie always called her Aunt Korie.

v. Henry B. WARD was born in 1889.22 He died in 1927 in Banjo Branch, Johnson County, Kentucky.23 He was a Worked for Railroads in Johnson County, Kentucky.24

vi. Grace WARD was born in 1900.25 She died in 1956.26

THIRD GENERATION

4. James M. WARD5 was born in Jan 1818 in Kentucky.27 He died after 1900. He was a Farmer.5 He was educated Illiterate.5 He was called Big Foot.28 Each of William Ward's brothers had a son named James. In order to distinguish one from another, they gave them each descriptive nicknames. The other James were named, "Whitehead", "Bit-nose" and "Nine toes". Other James were called "Jimper", "Little Jim" and "Jim's Jim". He was. According to Marge Lyons, James named the area now known as Banjo Branch. He chose the name because there are 5 branch's, or creeks, that all came into one branch--just like the 5 strings of a banjo. He was married to Susan Irena LYON(S).29,30

5. Susan Irena LYON(S) was born in 1817 in North Carolina.31 She died before 1900. No records exist on the death dates of Irena and James Ward. Even their headstones are without a death date. Irena died before James. James M. WARD and Susan Irena LYON(S) had the following children:

It is now a grade school. He was married to Elizabeth HICKS.

Jesse LYON was born in 1788 in Wilkes County, North Carolina.78,79 He appeared on the census in 1850 in Lawrence County, Kentucky.80 This appears family appears in the Lawrence County cenus records. The relationship between this family and Irena is based purely on speculation. The fact that the ages of Jesse and Anna allow for Irena to be their daughter, Jesse & Anna were born in NC, like Irena and they have a son named Ransom, just like Irena are the basis for this speculation.

FIFTH GENERATION

16. James/Lemill WARD105 was born about 1755 in Virginia.57 He died after Jun 1808 in Floyd County, Kentucky.57 He was living in Rockhouse Creek, Floyd County, Kentucky.106 Later became Martin County A.J. Ward, son of William Ward and Elizabeth Meek gives this man's name as Lemill Ward. However, M.L.K. Wells said that James Ward came to the Big Sandy and settled in what is now Martin County on a farm where the county seat of that county is now located. The records do show that a James Ward was a deputy sheriff of that county on August 28, 1792. He was married to Sarah "Sallie" OSBORN.107,57 The family came in 1803 from Virginia to the Big Sandy Valley.

William Ward, son of Lemill was 11 years old when they moved.

SEVENTH GENERATION

64. James WARD was born in 1672 in Donegal County, Ireland.57 He died before 1760 in Augusta County, Virginia.57 He was married. One William Ward appears on the list of settlers in the 1st supply of Jan. 1608 at the Jamestown Settlement. This William is a tailor. Could this be the start of the Ward family in the US? This would conflict with other info on the Ward family.

[Leonard Ward, of Chesterfield died in 1772, he mentions in his will his wife Anne, hsi sister Sarah Walker, brothers Seth, John and William Ward, sister Anne Ligon and brother Joseph. In Goode's "Virginia Cousins" is an account fo the descendants fo Beth and MAry Goode Warde. Several Members moved from Chesterfield and Henrico Counties to Amelia, and for a number of years their descendants were large land owners there. William Ward and perhaps others moved from Amelia to Kentucky." James WARD had the following children:
