My great grandfathers uncle was Pvt. Hiram Jude. He was born 1844 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, the son of John Frederick (alias Jude), Sr., and Martha "Patsy" Boner aka Boney aka Beneney. He was listed on the Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky as a private, serving the Union during the Civil War. On Aug. 29, 1863 at age 19, he was mustered in Co. H, 14 Regt Kentucky Inf., at Louisa, KY by Lieut. J. C. Henderson. He volunteered on March 12, 1863 in Louisa for a period of 3 years. On the company muster roll for July and August, 1864 he was absent and was missing in action Aug. 22, 1864. According to a memorandum from prisoner of war records, this was due to being captured at Atlanta, GA on August 9, 1864. He was paroled at Savannah River, GA on Nov. 20, 1864. Muster was completed Dec. 24, 1864. Muster roll shows he was mustered out of Co. H on January 31, 1865 and also shows "recruit enlisted since the original organization, turned over to Commanding Officer of Post at Louisa, KY Jan 30, 1865". He was transferred to Company "C," Battn 14th Kentucky Veteran Volunteer Infantry. Private was mustered out of Co. C, Battn 14 Kentucky Inf., on Sept. 15, 1865 by Captain Thos. V. Marcum showing "recruit died of fever at Louisa, KY June 21, 1865." This information was obtained from General Reference Branch (NNRG-P), National Archives and Records Administration, 7th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW., Washington, DC 20408.
