Classification: Query
Mary Brummett Brock says in her claim for a widow's pension for the service of Capt. John Brock in the War of 1812 that they were married in Laurel Co., Ky on November 4, 1852 and that John Brock died June 10, 1858 in Laurel Co., Ky and that John Brock's first wife was Elizabeth Ragan.

Witnessed in the pension application is this "she is the widow of John Brock, who served under the name John Brock as a Captain in the Company commanded by John Brock in the fourth regiment of Tennessee Militia commanded by Colonel Baylis."
My questions and confusion comes from the wording of the above paragraph. Is it speaking of two John Brock's when it says "served under the name John Brock as a Captain in the Company commanded by John Brock". I believe it is. Which begs another question.

Capt. John Brock and a John Brock are burried in Rough Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel County.
Tombstone inscriptions of Capt. John Brock says 1775-1851.
Stone transscription of John Brock says 1784-1857.

Based on Mary's Brock's application it seems that her husband John Brock was born 1784. If Mary married John Brock (husband of Elizabeth Regan) in 1852 then he could not have been the Capt John Brock whose tombstone shows him dieing in 1851. Was the Capt. John Brock born 1775 the commanding officer of the John born 1784? Who were 1775 John's parents? How were the two Johns related or were they?

This found in the 1850 Laurel Co., KY. Prior to the stated DOD of the John Brock's above.
Is this John Brock 1784 and if not who is it?

HH# 196, John Brock
John Brock, 63, Va (1787)
Sarah Brock, 55, NC
Lydia Brock, 18, KY
John Brock, 16, KY
Alfred Brock, 14, KY

Is this Capt. John Brock 1775 and if not who is it? Who is Oma? Why are the kids listed out of age order?

HH# 381, John Brock
John Brock, 72, VA
Oma Brock, 27, TN (1823)
George W. Brock, 12, KY
Andrew Brock, 10, KY
Lydia Brock, 15, KY
John Brock, 9, KY
William Brock, 7, KY
James Brock, 5, KY
Polly Brock, 2, KY

I would like to correspond with a Brock decendant of the Laurel County Brock's who has knowledge or documentation of this line.

Thank you,
Avery
