• Martha Mattie Botkin, b. 5-14-1855 in Knox Co. KY. Married Jesse Marshall (b. March 1855. They had the following children: Ellen F. Marshall, b. Feb. 1882, Lula E. Marshall, b. Nov-1884, Robert B. Marshall, b. Jan-1896 & then 2 other children.
• Parents of Martha/Mattie were John Browder Botkin, b. 2-6-1822 in Knox Co. KY (His father was John Bodkin, b. 1781 d. 8-22-1898 and is buried in the Thorpe Cem. In Lewis Co. KY & Esthma Haile, b. 1789). & Delila Jones, b. 12-2-1825, d. 1-22-1898.
The grave site for John Botkin and Delilia Jones is in the Thorpe Cemetery located on Bowman Springs Rd.
This Cem is located in Lewis Co near the intersection of Bowman Springs and Wallingford Rd.

According to family history (as told by James Browder Botkin on 2/19/1985), James was a
self taught Doctor. James wanted to join the service in the Civil War, but seeing as how he
was not old enough, they would not let him. He decided to help administer pills and help
tend to the wounded soldiers. After the war he still continued to administer to the sick in
Lewis Co, Ky. He and his wife also ran a store in Lewis Co.

The following Obit Notice appeared in the local Lewis Co
newspaper on 9 JUL 1925:

" Dr. BOTKIN PASSES

Word was received here late today of the death of Dr. J.R. Botkin
of Petersville, at 6 A.M. No details are available."
