Charles William “Bill” Smith, 90, of Eddyville, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at 1:15 a.m., at Baptist Health in Paducah, following a short illness.
Born March 25, 1923, in Hammond, Ind., a son of the late David Franklin and Willie Tylene Chandler Smith, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Eddyville, and was a retired iron worker at Calument Steel.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Ellen Cheney; and two brothers, Ralph Smith and Phillip Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Edwina Rice Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles W. Jr. and Darlene Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., and David A. and Linda Smith, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; a son-in-law, Greg Cheney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Franklin Smith of Lyon County; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m., at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville, with the Rev. Tim Perdue officiating.
Burial will follow in Chestnut Oak Cemetery in Lyon County.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the funeral home.
