Bert Lee Fannin, 83, of Collins,Ohio, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 19, 1930 in West Liberty, Kentucky, (Morgan County) son of the late William and Cloa (Atkins) Fannin.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union for 17 years, and a self-employed carpenter for Bert Fannin Builder from 1953 until retiring in 2007.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and played adult softball for more than 40 years. He founded the girls’ softball team at Western Reserve School and was a Boy Scout leader for many years.
He volunteered more than 30 years with the Townsend Fire Department with 27 years as assistant chief.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoying spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was also a member of the Bronson Conservation Club and Norwalk Eagles Aerie 711.
He is survived by wife, Dorothy (Leimeister) Fannin, of Collins; children, Carol (Pat) Dunn, of Norwalk, OH, Joanne (Bruce) Linn, Jean (Ron) Wolfe and Deb (Ken) Morrow, all of Collins, Betty Driver, of LaGrange, Brenda (Steve) Cooper, of Collins, Cindy (Dwight) Buchanon, of Waxhaw, N.C., Tom Fannin, of New London, Pat (Judy) Fannin and Joe (Chrissie) Fannin, of Wakeman, Steve (Tammy) Fannin, of Columbus, Ind., and James Fannin, of LaGrange; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his children, Frederick in infancy and Patricia Fannin at nine years old; brothers, Bill, Carl and Ernest Fannin; and sisters, Olive Lucal, Edna Ujvari, Betty Meyer and Audrey Smith.
Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk, Ohio.
Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
