Thank you for your reply. I am familiar with census records.
The reason I suspect, but have not proven, the children mentioned is:
According to Nicholas County, KY Marriage bonds, Ortho was married to Susan Snapp in 1853.
The 1840 Nicholas County census has as head of household Ortho Sparks with 1 male 30-40, 1 female 20-30, 2 males 0-5, 1 male 5-10. In the 1850 Nicholas County census one of the sons fits with Alfred Sparks, 13 in 1850, living with Otho and the Charles Sparks family. A John Sparks, 10 yrs old b 1840, was living with Charles and Elizabeth Craycraft and family in District 2 Nicholas County in 1850. A Franklin J Sparks, 2 years old b 1848, Granville Sparks 9 yrs old b 1841, and Elizabeth Sparks 6 years old b 1844, were living with George and Sally Barnet in the 1850 District 2 Nicholas County census. In the 1860 federal census, Amos J. Sparks was 14 years old and living with Jefferson and Jane Stokes, each 56 years old (born 1804), in Nicholas County, KY.
I believe these children could be the children of Otho and Susan. Susan is not found after the 1840 census. According to "Kentucky Marriages 1785-1979", Otho married second Sarah J Smith in 1853.
I am trying to figure out what happened to Susan Snapp. Also neither Otho or Sarah Smith can be found after their marriage in 1853. Checked every census I could find.
