Realize that this is very old, but I have this material from the papers of Virginia Shannon Fendrick from her extensive research on this family.

From pension application R. 9430, Robert Shannon a soldier in the Rev. War was born Jan 23, 1783, place not stated (but he appears to be the son of William of Mercersburg). He married Feb. 24, 1780, Catherine Davidson, the dau of John Davidson. She was born Dec 2, 1762 in Pa. and when about 12 years of age her father moved to S.C, and lived at one time in that part of S.C. which was later York Co.; and she married at her father's house.

Soon after her marriage they moved to Lincoln Co., N.C. and in 1795 moved from N.C. to Scott Co. Ky., about five years later moved to Fayette Co., then to Jessamine Co. and in 1812 moved to Henry Co. Ky.

Soldier died Jan 22, 1827 in Henry Co., Ky. and his widow Catherine applied for pension Jan 8, 1840, at which time she was a resident of Henry Co.

It is alleged in this claim that Robert SHannon served from the commencement of the war until about the close as a private and lieutenant, that he was in the battles of Kings Mountain, Cowpens, Eutaw SPrings, served a part of the time under Capt. Henry and Col. Dickens.

He took the oath of allegiance Aug 29, 1778 and was discharged Oct 20, 1781 from a three-month tour as a lieut. in Capt. James Little's camp in Col. Francis Leeke's N.C. regiment.

The claim was not allowed as proof of six month's service, as required by the pension law.

The widow Catherine died May 26, 1850.

From an interview given by Mrs. Lilly Catherine Shannon Adams for Patsy Gregg Chapter DAR:

The Shannon family came early to Pa., about 1750 or perhaps a little later, but where they came from to Pa., I do not know, but at one time they lived in Cumberland Co. Pa.

My grandfather Robert and his brother James settled in No. Caroline and it was there that my grandmother Catherine Davidson lived during the Rev. War.

Robert Shannon fought with the Militia in all during the Revolution; for his service he was to receive land grants.

My father was Samuel Shannon and he lived in Henry Co. Ky. where all of the nine children were born and where we lived until 1852 when we came to Saline Co. MO, to live.

I actually have a paper (from the Fendrick Library) with most of the death dates for the children as well as well as marriage partners. If anyone wants it, please let me know.
