Seeking info on ELLIS/RUTHERFORD line

I am researching a line of my family connected to William R. Ellis, born ca. 1860 in Oldham Co, Kentucky, died after 1900 in Chicago, Illinois. I have very sparse information about his origins, only a mention in his widow's obituary, (published in the Oldham Era) that his "old home was what is now [1934] known as the 'Sheehan farm'."

His wife was Susan Ann ("Annie") RUTHERFORD (or Retherford) ca. 1880 and had by her four children: Harry Huntington (1882-1940), Florence P. GEWEHR TOBIAS (1885-1948), Edgar McMahon (1890-1956) and my grandfather William Robert (1892-1958). About 1920 Mrs. Annie Ellis and her daughter Florence relocated to Los Angeles, and by 1930 the three Ellis boys were also living there.

Annie Rutherford also had two daughters by her first husband, Robert H. HUSS: Pearl G. Huss BODE and Hattie Huss STARKEY. Both daughters settled in the LaGrange area.

I know that Annie Rutherford Huss Ellis, my g.grandmother, was born in Shelby County, near Clay Village, and that her parents were Levi G. RUTHERFORD (1815-?) and Ellen Payne HICKS (1825-1870). Annie's sister Emma Frances RETHERFORD (1860-1942) also lived in LaGrange.

However, I've not been as successful in connecting my g.grandfather William R[obert?] Ellis to his parents.

Does anyone have any information on this thread, or can explain who might have owned what was known as the "Sheehan farm" in 1934?

Mark, did you ever find any info on Charles Legan. I am related to him also. I have searched and can't find any info on him other than what is already on ancestry.com. I did find his gravestone at YoungsCreek Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson Co. Indiana. Please let me know if you find any parents for him. Thanks, Carol

Suzanne, I sent the picture you posted of her dad and she was excited when she saw it. It was the one with Patrick, Edward, Claude and Thomas in a wagon. She didn't have much use for her dad. If she emails me with an interest I will certainly give her your email address, if that is OK with you. Carol

BARNHILL Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co.

JAMES W. BARNHILL was born in Oldham County, January 23, 1847, and is a son of Hiram and Margaret (Boyd) Barnhill, the latter a native of Shelby County, Ky. Hiram Barnhill was born in North Carolina in 1818, and came to Kentucky with his father, William, who settled in the southern part of Oldham County, participated in the battle of New Orleans, from which field he walked home. The wife of William Barnhill, and grandmother of James W. Barnhill, was a Miss Ruth Boone, who was a native of North Carolina and a cousin of Daniel Boone. James W. Barnhill was reared on the home farm, and was educated at LaGrange. In 1885 he entered into partnership with GeorgeV. Barnhill, and established the LaGrange Woolen-mills. George V. died August 28, 1886, and in March, 1887, Col. Charles C. Haelfling and Newton W. Ladd took his half interest. These mills have a working capacity of 115pounds of wool a day, and employ eleven hands, the capital stock being about $4,500. In May, 1876, Mr. Barnhill married Miss Julia McWilliams, of Shelby County, daughter of Samuel and Martha A. McWilliams, and of the children born to this union five are living: Paul, Estelle, Katie, John D.and William Roy. Mr. Barnhill is still engaged in agricultural pursuits, and owns a farm of 110 acres between LaGrange and Ballardsville .
http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/oldham/barnhill.jw....

Source: http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/person.aspx?pid=32157670
Source: http://www.kykinfolk.com/oldham/

1850 United States Federal Census about Jas W Barnhill
Name: Jas W Barnhill Age: 4 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1846 Birth Place: Kentucky Gender: Male Home in 1850(City,County,State): Division 2, Oldham, Kentucky Source Citation: Year: 1850; Census Place: Division 2, Oldham, Kentucky; Roll: M432_216; Page: 105; Image: 2.
Hello Sharissa, Good timing. I've been working, off & on, for a number of year on William McDowell's son Richard, Carroll Co KY. Just recently I've been been in contact with Keith McDowell, working on Richard & Margaret's brother, George (he's pretty sure they're siblings, and that George died before William wrote his will in 1838). Just wanted to let you know we're here & working on the McDowell side. I'm at crlogan@cox.net . More later, Chuck Logan, Westerly RI

Cassie McCarty and Charles Walter Oldham are my great grandparents. Etta Oldham Ethington was a sister of my grandmother, Callie Mae Oldham Robertson. I'm guessing you're wanting the family history of Cassie and Charles Walter? Will be glad to provide, but will have to check my family history info. The Oldham side of our family is traced back to England, with some question of lineage back about five generations.

I have been researching my INGLE family for 20 years. I am currently looking for information on WILLIAM INGLE/ENGLE who was enumerated in the 1810 & 1820 Henry Co., KY census and in the 1830 Oldham Co., KY census. I believe this is the father of WINNEY INGLE who married BENJAMIN HANCOCK and NATHAN INGLE who married NANCY HANCOCK. There are several others that could be connected to this family. I would greatly appreciate any help in locating information on this WILLIAM INGLE/ENGLE.

According to census records1860-1870),the Strothers were neighbors to my ancestors John Rohmer(Romer),His wife Barbara(nee Bopp)and their children.Other neighbors during this period were Reibel,Becker,Baker,Strasser.I am at a sticking point in trying to determine the town of origin of the John and Barabra Rohmer in Alsace France. The 1860 census states they were from France and spoke German.Later census records state origin from Germany. This is all consistent with the changing boundaries of France and Germany at that time.Their surnames are in highest cocentration in the Bas Rhin area as well.I am currently researching records of several towns in the Bas Rhin area to determine their origin.I have researched the neighbors surnames as well, thinking they may also have Alsatian origins, possibly a common town of origin. You may give consideration to this possibility. If I uncover anything of substance,I will let you know.I would appreciate any help you may have to offer.Sincerely,Chris K

1.) I would like to know if you could look-up:

Kermuth Darril Taylor

Born: 28 SEP 1922 Died: 19 AUG 1967

2.) I am also looking for any information on Kermuth's parent Albert Taylor (b. abt 1891 KY d. ?) and his wife Maria/Martha Taylor (b. abt. 1890/1897 KY d. ?)

3.) There also "might possible" be a nephew buried near the above person.

Darril Elvin KNAUER

Born: 25 JAN 1936 Crestwood, Oldham Co., KY

Died: 25 JAN 1936 Crestwood, Oldham Co., KY

Thank you sooo much for the reply. You confirmed what I wanted to know. My g grandparents were John A Wilhoyte and Olivia (Perkins) Wilhoyte. John was the s/o Zachariah and Elizabeth; and Olivia was the d/o Thomas and Lucy. What you told me means Elizabeth and Lucy were half sisters. Had they been full sisters, my g grandparents would have been first cousins (not a good thing!). I don't know what their mothers being half sisters means; but it's wierd. Thanks again.

Hello. I am in the possession of a Bible that must of been given to John and Mary Cash or a Kathleen Cash Miser in 1936 from the Crestwood Babtist Sunday School and it has alot of family names, dates of birth etc, and heart felt sentimental value to maybe someone who is family. If you are a family member email me at rachelle65@aol.com if someone is interested in this bible. It is not in good shape but where the names are are perfect and there are other items in this bible that I can tell you about. I gave a donation and somewhere and all I would want is for you to pay postage. Just know if it was me, I would love to have a family bible that was from my family, but if not, I will keep it and if you ever change your mind it will be here. Thank You.
