William and Ellen (Wise) Logan, in 1852 the family was living on Miller Creek in Estill Co, KY. The tax records list William as owning 150 acres of land valued at $500.00, one slave over 16 years of age and another valued at $11.00. Five horses at $70.00, five head of cattle.
In 1858 William D. Logan was a work hand on the road from the head of Cow Creek to the Old Furnace in Estill Co. (Note) This information leads me to believe the family had moved from Millers Creek on up its tributary branch. There was a state law that required property owners to work one week each year to help keep the public roads repaired. The manufacturing of iron was an important part of the local economy for that area during the mid 1800's and I think William and the older boys probably worked at some part of the iron making process.

William bought several hundred acres of land on Lower Cane Creek in Powell Co, KY and was living there when the 1870 census was taken. He died in 1879 and was buried in the cemetery that is located behind the Cane Creek Union Church. A large portion of the William D. Logan property is yet owned by his decendants. The older living grand children say that one of the William's former slaves is buried near him.

As is the case in nearly all families the children became married and some began to move away to other locations. William S. located in Tennessee, James W. moved and died in Byrdstown, Tennessee, Franklin lived near Elizabethtown, KY and then went on to Tennessee. Robert married Moses Willoughby's daughter Lerona and went with the Willoughbys to Utah.
