Classification: Query
Surnames: Phelps, Miller, Conover
In the Ozark community newsletter in the Adair County News, October 4, 1944, edition. Mrs. Sallie Bryant was the correspondent.

While returning from Columbia last Friday afternoon, we noticed a soldier boy standing near the road. Mr. Graves gladly stopped and offered him a ride. He proved to Pvt. Phelps, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Phelps, of Esto, Russell County, and was en route to that place. He had spent two years overseas, most of that time in the Aleutians. He had recently been returned to the States and stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga. He said he expected to be sent back across soon. He is in the Infantry and a private, because he preferred to be. He was wearing some medals of honor, but was very modest and humble about the work he had done but politely answered our many questions. He is a first cousin to Densmore Miller, of this place, and nephew of Mrs. Hiram J. Conover.
