We are searching for anyinformation on John Oliver Perry (J.O.P.) Hargus. JOP was a blacksmith by trade. In our review of census records, he indicates that he was born in Kentucky @ 1830. We believe that he is listed on the 1850 census of Simpson County Kentcky as "Hargus, J. 19, M Blacksmith, Kentucky" in the household of Wm. Roberts, a blacksmith; also included in the household is Joseph Roberts, also a blacksmith.
We know that JOP's son Milton, was born in 1851; our information indicates that he was born in Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee. JOP also married Nancy J. Myers (spelling may vary) in Davidson County, Tennessee, but we do not have a confirmation of that date. Both the 1860 & 1870 censuses show them in Missouri, without Milton. We know that JOP served with the CSA with troops from Missouri. The 1910 census information reflects that JOP had been married twice. We would like to confirm his marriage(s), and, if to obtain any info regarding Milton Hargus, prior to 1880, as he doesn't show up on the 1860 or 1870 census with JOP & Nancy. Milton's last living daughter, who we interviewed this past weekend, mentioned that her father told her that as a child, he remembered playing with "the Cantrells", but we have nothing to prove such.
ANY information on JOP Hargus from your records, archives, etc. would be most appreciated, as we have nothing with regard to his parents, church, etc. We have located limited information on him from the LDS site. We also have information on Milton, but it is for the latter part of his life.
