Over the years different people have been responsible for taking care of the Pilot Knob Cemetery. After the death of the last person in charge, there was no money for the care of this community cemetery. A new committee was formed about five years ago with the task of both the care and the fund raising. Money was raised to clear the weeds and mess that had overtaken the cemetery. With the help of James Mooneyhan and the community service workers from the jail, PKC was maintained for two years. The next year, Lance Forshee who has family buried there mowed and trimmed for the cost of his gas and spray. The last two years, we have had to pay almost $1500 for mowing and trimming. One of our big concerns was the condition of the fence around the perimeter of the cemetery. We applied and received a matching grant from the state to replace the fence. Daryl Watwood owns the surrounding property and will pay his half of the fence. We have already had the old fence torn down and are ready to put the new one up. Our problem is money. If you have friends or loved ones buried in Pilot Knob Cemetery please help us. Some of the family names of persons buried in PKC are: ADAMS, ARNOLD ,BEACH, BELL, BLAND, BOGAN, BOWMAN, BRATTON, BREEDLOVE, BUTLER, CALLOWAY, CASKEY, CASSETTY, CHANEY, CHAUVIN, COKER, COLEMAN, CURTIS, DAWSON, DISHMAN, DORRIS, DUNN,
EDWARDS, ELLIOTT, FAGG, FLEMING, FULCHER, GARDNER, GIVENS, GORDON. GREGORY, HADEN. HALL, HANES, HARRIS, HATCHER, HOBDY, HOCKERSMITH, HOLDER, HOLLAND, HUDSPETH, JENNETT, JOHNSON, JOHNSTON, JONES, KEY, MANN, MATLOCK, MCDONALD, MCELWAIN, MCFADIN, MCFARLAND, MCKINNIS, MERIMON, MILLER, MOODY, MORRIS, MOYERS, NEEL, PARGE, PEARSON, PEART, PERKINS, PHILLIPS, POTEET, PRICE, PROCTOR, RAGLAND, ROWLAND, RULEY, RUSSELL, SMITH, STONE, STUART, TARRENTS, TURNER, WALLACE, WATKINS, WHITE, WILKERSON, WILSON, WITT, WRIGHT, and YOUNG.
We need donations to be able to match the $2500 grant that we received and to continue to maintain this old community cemetery (The oldest graves were 1819--the same year Simpson County was formed).. Donations may be given to any of the committee members or deposited in Pilot Knob Cemetery Fund at South Central Bank, Franklin, KY. Checks should be made to Pilot Knob Cemetery Fund. If you have any questions or concerns about this cemetery, please contact one of the committee persons listed below.
