Hugh,
We have shared family history in the past. I did my own research on Charles Henry's father and this is what my guess would be:
The father of Charles Henry could quite possibly be James A. Goodwin born in 1849. In 1860 the family of Thomas & Margaret Goodwin lived in Household #21 and Hamilton & Elizabeth Redman were in household #23. James A. and Emily Redman were only a year apart in age. In 1870 both families were in Mount Eden. Thomas Goodwin in household #136 along with their son James. Hamilton Redman lived in household #162 along with daughter Emily and grandson Charles Henry who was then three years old. It just seems to me that the odds are it was James. I look forward to what you find out with the DNA.
