My great grandfather was one of Mead's sons, Samuel Stuison Holt. Both Mead and his wife died from drinking "poison" water from a barrel in their cabin when Samuel was 11 months old and his brother Flemming was 2 yrs. They were raised by their grandfather, Kennon. I found Kennon and Sally's grave in Kentucky and some other information on Kennon as well.
Samuel was a Confederate and a member of Morgan's Raiders. He was captured at Buffington Island, Ohio in 1863 and spent the remainder of the war in Chicago in a POW camp. He walked back to Ky at war's end, went to U of Louisville, and became a doctor. He settled in Gadsden, Al where he got married and had children. He moved his family to Ellis Co, Tx in 1905. My grandfather, Pleasant Kennon, had the family bible, but it was destroyed when his house burned. Much of this history came from remebrances of his youngest sister.
