She was born 15 Mar 1845 in Bloody Creek, Breathitt County, Kentucky81, and died 30 Aug 1932 in Rogers, Wolfe County, Kentucky82.
Notes for GEORGE WASHINGTON BREWER:
George was cleaning out a well at his home on Lower Devils Creek when he died. Ella Brewer Bush said that he'd either had a heart attack, or was overcome by gas fumes coming from well. Anyway, he fell in the well that he was cleaning, and it is not known if he was dead before he hit the water, or if he'd drowned in the well.
George was tall and lanky, and in mid-life began walking with a cane due to inflamitory arthritus in his hip.
George had bought a good sized piece of land on Furnace Mountain in Powell County, but was offered a pretty good deal on it, so he traded that land for the place in Wolfe County. He'd acquired not only the farm on Lower Devil's Creek, but also most of the land from there to Torrent. He sold the land in Torrent to the railroad when they decided to run through there. My grandpa Bert Brewer said, that after the railroad stopped running through, people started squatting on the land, and that's how all the Booth's got their land at Torrent.
As time went by he sold all the land to different individuals, and gave pieces to his children, till he only had the farm which was entered at Spruce Gap,. It extended to Tarr Ridge, and went down to where the
Spencer Sawmill is now. The land the Spencer sawmill sits on is the land that Bert was cheated out of by his siblings, it was a 48 acre tract.

At one time, there was a place called Oklahoma, Kentucky. It was just a small community with a small country store and a saloon calledThe Oklahoma Saloon, which was run by George Washington Brewer.
As a saloon is a good place for trouble to brew, and it did, George decided to get out of the Saloon business before someone got killed there. It wasnt long afterwards that the name of the little community
was changed to Rogers, Kentucky.

Notes for OLIVER BREWER:
Uncle Ol lived on Lower Devils Creek. The property, which many of the Brewers lived on, was accessed from Spruce Gap Curve, just before you get to Rogers. He'd been living down there by himself because his wife Huldie was staying with one of their children. When no one had seen him for awhile, a few of Rogers' residents went down to check on him, among them was Dorsie Creech. They found him dead, and he'd been dead for awhile. They took a team of mules and a sled to haul him out of the holler. Dorsie said the stench of him was awful, his body had started to rot. Boyd and Dorsie Creech made the casket, and helped dig the grave. They buried him the next day.
Some people talked about his death suspecting foul play, but his grandaughter June Brewer Bush, said that his bronchitis was so bad that he'd have coughing spells and couldn't hardly catch his breath. She said that it had finally worn his heart out and that when he went into his last coughing spell it probably just quit,
Oliver's wife, Hulda, had an early onset of alzheimers disease, and people just thought she was going crazy. She got so she wouldn't stay with Oliver, and left to live with her daughter.

Notes for HENRY CLAY BREWER:
Henry Clay Brewer was born at Jett's Creek in Brethitt County Kentucky at an area called Buzzard Bend. No one now knows where that area is as the name must have changed over time.
Clay had diabetes, and in the 40's there were no hospitals close by, and only one doctor in the county, who probably didn't know how to treat diabetes. The last few years of his life, he was unable to work, or take care of his farm, and his young family by his second wife Ethel. His son Bert (Elberton Monroe Brewer) and grandson Wallace (son of Bert) took care of the place for him, as well as keeping firewood cut. He gave Bert and Wallace 48 acres of land on Tarr Ridge because they were the only ones who came to help out, He divided the rest of his property into two parts, one part going to his children by Margaret Ellen, his first wife, and the other part going to his second wife and the children they had together. According to his will, none of the property could be sold unless all of his children, by both marriages, agreed and signed. Bert never intended to sell his piece of land because Wallace lived there off and on with his family. Bert lived in Middletown, Ohio, and when all the rest decided to sell, one of them forged Bert's name to the deed. Bert didn't find out until the deed was done, and though he could have had the sale revoked, he didn't. He said they'd all have to stand accounted for it come judgement day, and explain to the Lord why they'd robbed, and cheated him out of his land.

Dorsie Creech, who married Bert's sister in law, Addie, said that old man Clay had tried for several years to get a tobacco base for his farm but hadn't been able to get it. Dorsie was involved in politics, in the Republican party, and was able to work behind the scenes to get a tobacco base for Clay.
Ella Brewer Bush told me a story about Henry Clay, while living down on Lower Devils Creek [Spruce Gap Curve entrance to place]. His son Bert {Elberton Monroe Brewer}, had his cousin George Brewer [son of Uncle Ol] over spending the night. They'd been talking about a hole half way up a cliff, and wondering if it was a bear cave. They decided to climb up the cliff, which was no easy task, to explore the hole and see if it was a cave. After they got up there, they looked down and was afraid to climb down because it was so high. They began hollering for help. Henry Clay, who'd told them not to climb the cliff was laughing at them, and went into the house and brought out his fiddle. He sat in a chair in the yard where the boys could see him and played that fiddle until it was almost dark, and by then the boys had got up the nerve to climb back down from the cliff. Ella said that Bert and George both swore they'd never climb another cliff.
Uncle Dorsie Creech was at grandpa Henry Clay's house the day he died. He'd went to see him cause he was told that old man Clay was pretty bad off. Uncle Dorsie said that he looked pretty bad, he was swelled real bad from the diabetes, and his legs was busted open and oozing blood and puss. Uncle Dorsie said that Clay talked and laughed, and asked for a big onion, When he got it he ate it just like eating an apple, then he took off singing hymns. Just before he died he said, I want my boy Granville buried next to me cause I have a bad feeling he'll be dead before long. Uncle Dorsie and his brother Boyd Creech made the coffin for grandpa Henry Clay, and that both of them helped dig the grave.
