Hello,
I am searching for any information I can find on my ancestor Josiah or Joseph David Jayne.
Family history says that he was born in Smyth county Virginia. Smyth county became a county in 1832 from portions of Wythe and Washington counties.
I have had to estimate a birth year based on census records and death info. 1829-1832.(he is buried in an unmarked grave)
In the 1850 census of Smyth county Virginia, I found a Josiah "Jean" living with James and Mary Ann Cole.
James was the grandson of Sampson Cole who married Lydia Wheeler. Lydia's sister, Abigail, married Henry Jayne.
I believe Josiah or Joseph David Jayne was somehow related to these people.
Josiah went to Lincoln county, Missouri and married there in 1859 to Talitha East Plummer, widow of George Plummer.

He relocated to Hannibal, Marion county, Missouri by 1873. He was a blacksmith and had a son called Erasmus Darwin Jayne(s) and a daughter called Molly or sometimes, Mary.

There was a Henry Jayne in Troy, Lincoln co. Missouri too, who was also a blacksmith. He was a few years older than Josiah and had a wife Mariah or Maria. They always have a younger female living with them called Jane Dean listed as born in Virginia and deaf. Henry died in 1873 in a cholera epidemic, in Troy. Maybe that is why Josiah moved to Hannibal!
Can anyone help me?
One other thing... I was always taught that my family came here, from Wales. I have read that William Jayne lived in Wales for several years before coming to the States.
I was also taught that a coverlet that my grandfather had came with them from Wales and was handed down through the generations.
Thanks:)
Didi Muir
