MISS GEORGIE BISHOP DIES

Miss Georgie Bishop, through thirty years before her retirement in 1924, an outstanding business woman of Madisonville who founded and conducted Bishop Millinery, and dealt in real estate both at home and in other localities with marked success, died in her home, 326 South Main, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after many years of illness.

Miss Bishop was born September 20, 1871, near Mortons Gap, the daughter of the late Lee Bishop and Sophronia Browning Bishop. When she was 26 years old, she established a millinery business in Madisonville and about thirty years ago, built the business home in South Main at Bishop avenue, moving there from a location almost directly across the street.

She remained in active charge of the business until August, 1924, when she retired, selling her business to her sisters, Mrs. R.W. Long and Mrs. Fay K. Ashby, who long had been associated with her and have conducted the business continuously since.

Miss Bishop possessed remarkable business foresight and an acumen highly regarded, and her judgement was respected by the most able of her business contemporaries. She was charitable almost to extravagance and deeply interested in the welfare of the community.

In addition to the sisters named above and Mrs. Karl Kohlman, who reside at the South Main address, Miss Bishop is survived by two sisters; Mrs. W.H. Sugg, 521 Logan; Mrs. E.B. Taylor, Taylor Apartments; by two brothers, C.D. Bishop, Madisonville rfd.4, and W.W. Bishop, Paducah.

Funeral will be conducted in the home at ten o'clock Thursday morning, with Rev. Harold J. Purdy, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating, and burial will take place in Odd Fellows cemetery.
