Imes Farris, Martha
Martha Churchill Imes Farris, 89 died Thursday, Nov. 21st at Hickory Woods. She was born in Murray July 15, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Ronald W., Sr. and Rebecca Wear Churchill and was preceded in death by husbands John Richard Imes and Charles (Chuck) Farris, by a daughter, Mary Wallace Imes, a great-grandson, Hank Imes and a sister Minnie Lee Walker.
Mrs. Farris attended Murray High School and graduated from Murray State College, at the age of 19, with a BA degree in English. She was an executive secretary to the vice president of John Deere Co., invoicing clerk for Murray Wholesale Grocery and had several positions with the United States Postal Service before retiring as Postmaster at the Almo Post Office, as well as a 4th generation licensed funeral director.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Murray, retired federal employees association, a Kentucky Colonel and loved to both play and listen to piano, fish, play cards with family and friends, keep her own yard mowed with absolutely straight lines, and clean windows (inside daily and outside almost weekly). An avid sports fan, she followed Murray State and UK basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals throughout her life. She was an enthusiastic traveler having visited 49 of the 50 states and wanting to visit NM this year, to complete her 'bucket list'. Also an adventurer via planes, trains and automobiles, even making three trips to Florida in the past seven months and taking a hot air balloon ride for Mother's Day this summer. However, she looked forward to the promises of scripture and has now begun the greatest adventure of all with her Lord Jesus. (I Cor. 2:9-10).
Martha is survived by a son, Kenny Imes (Mary Beth) of Murray, two daughters Becky Mathis (Johnny) of Melber, KY and Susie Simmons (Jeff) of Franklin, TN.
