Big Boiling Spring: Logan Co, See Russellville.

Big Bone: Boone Co. Extinct PO, across KY 448 from Big Bone Lick State Park, ½ mi from Ohio River; 9 ½ miles S of Burlington. Named for a salt lick discovered 1729. An earlier po called Big Bone Lick established 7 June 1820 with Thomas EDMONSON, PM. Another po called Bigbone opened 21 Jan 1890, now closed.

Big Buffalo Crossing: Hart. See Woodsonville, Munfordville.

Big Clifty: Grayson Co. US 62, 1 mile S of Hardin Co line, 7 miles NE of Leitchfield. PO operated from 7 June 1843 to 23 Oct 1845. In Dec 1850, The Southland po which had been established 6 Apr 1846 just over The Hardin Co line (named for its first pm, William SOUTH) was Renamed Big Clifty and moved to this site.

Big Creek: Clay Co. Along US 421 (80) about ½ mile W of the Leslie Co line for about a mile to the mouth of the creek, 9 ½ miles E of Manchester. PO est 10 Jan 1871, James MARCUM, pm.

Bighill: Madison Co. Jct of US 421 and KY 21, 12 ½ miles SSE of Richmond. Named for the mountain. PO est 22 May 1843, discontinued, reestablished at current location. Closed after 4 months, at current location 8 June 1846, William W SMITH, pm.

Big Laurel: Harlan Co. Named for the location of the creek, 9 ½ miles NE of Harlan. PO est 25 May 1925, Alice E BOGGS, pm.

Big Muddy: Butler. See Dunbar.

Big Rock: Leslie Co. PO est 1931 on Cutshin Creek, 11 ½ miles SE of Hyden; named for a huge bald rock about 100 yards away.

Big Spring: Breckinridge Co. Juct of Breckinridge, Hardin & Meade counties. PO Est 1826.

Big Spring Station: Woodford Co. See Spring Station.

Bill Siding: Pike Co. See Argo.

Bimble: Knox Co. At jct of old US 25E & KY 1304. Will PAYNE est po here on 23 Jan 1898 one mile from this location. Moved ca 1940. Was also known as Yager.

Birdsville: Livingston Co. 5 ½ miles NNW of Smithland. PO est 17 Apr 1860, Richard NELSON, pm; named for Byrd JAMESON, local store owner.

Birdwell PO: Marshall Co. See Altona.

Birdwell's Landing: Marshall Co. See Altona.

Birk City: Daviess Co. 22 miles above the confluence of Green with the Ohio River, 7 miles W of Owensboro. Named for its founder, Jonas Adam BIRK, German immigrant. PO opened 20 Apr 1864, closed 1903.

Birk's City PO: Daviess. See Birk City.

Birmingham: Marshall Co. Was located on the Tn River at the mouth of Bear creek, 9 miles ENE of Benton. Flooded by KY Lake in early 1940's. Town began 1849 with Thomas LOVE, Scotsman, came from Eddyville. He est a store and on 3 oct 1851 a po with Laben S LOCKE, pm. Named for town in England.

Bivinsville: Todd Co. See Clifty.

Blackey: Letcher Co. On KY 7, 7 ½ miles w of Whitesburg – a former rail shipping Point. PO est 10 Sept 1908, James H BROWN, pm … presumably named for a local citizen, Blackey BROWN.

Blackford: Webster Co. KY 413 across the Tradewater River, 13 ½ miles WSW Of Dixon. First called Blacksford. PO opened 29 Aug 1887, James M CLEMENT, pm.

Blackford PO:Hancock Co. See Pellville.

Black Gnat: Taylor Co. US 68 on the Green Co line, 4 ½ miles WSW of Campbellsville. A local school house supposedly painted white, but by the time The paint was dry, it was covered with black gnats. No po.

Black Gold: Edmonson Co. 5 miles NW of Brownsville, named for the rock asphalt mined in the area. No po.

Black Hawk PO: Nicholas Co. See Myers.

Blackjack: Simpson Co. Extinct po, 3 ½ miles NE of Franklin, named for the Black jack or scrub oaks. PO est 4 Aug 1902, Perry T STAMPS, pm. Closed 1906. Also spelled Black Jack.

Black Lick PO: Logan Co. See Auburn.

Black Lick Settlement: Logan Co. See Auburn.

Black Rock: Grayson Co. A stop on the Illinois Central RR, 2 ½ miles SW of Leitchfield on US 62. Named for the tar-filled rock. PO est 30 June 1891 by Charles F HEYSER. Closed.

Blacks Ferry: Cumberland Co. Extinct po on KY 953, 8 ½ miles SW of Burkesville. PO transferred from Judio 18 Mar 1884, renamed for a pioneer family. Closed 1960.

Blackwater: Laurel Co. PO discontinued, 10 miles SE of London. Named for the darkishness of water or for a location in VA. PO est 1 Nov 1893, John S GILBERT, pm.

Blackwater PO: Morgan Co. See Maytown.

Blaine: Lawrence Co. Jct of KY 32 and 201, 13 miles SW of Louisa. Named for Ephraim BLAINE, a PA born Marylander who came here in 1783 to Survey lands granted him in the Rev. War. Area settled likely by 1822, PO opened 10 May 1828, Neri SWETMAN, pm.

Blaine Trace: Elliott Co. See Edsel.

Blairs Mills: Morgan Co. PO found in Perry's Grocery on KY 711, 10 ½ miles N of West Liberty. PO opened 18 Aug 1876, Cyrus PERRY, Jr, pm. In 1949 po moved ½ mile W to present location.

Blair Town: Pike Co. US 23/460 and the Levisa Fork of Big Sandy River, 3 ½ Miles NW of Pikeville. Named for Rev Whetzel BLAIR. No po.

Blandville: Ballard Co. Jct of KY 802 and 1837, 6 ½ miles e of Wickliffe. Est 1842 at county seat. Named for Capt Bland BALLARD, famed Indian fighter. Town incorporated on 14 Jan 1945; courthouse fire in 1880 county seat moved.

Blaze: Morgan. See Yocum.

Blevins: Lawrence Co. Extinct po was est 14 Mar 1899, named for its first pm, Thomas W BLEVINS. Moved in 1929 to the Right Fork of Cains Creek, closed in 1956.

Bliss: Adair Co. Extinct po on KY 80, ½ mile N of the Cumberland parkway, 3 miles W of Columbia. Est 9 Mary 1900, named for a local school teacher from Louisville. Also known as Turk for a local family.

Bloomfield: Bath. See Sharpsburg.

Bloomfield: Nelson Co. On US 62 and KY 55 & 48, 9 miles NE of Bardstown. PO of Middleburg est 1 July 1803, with Hadin? EDWARDS, pm. In 18017 John BEMISS, MD who succeeded him, supposedly founded The town, named for the former Miss BLOOMER and his son-in-law, Mr MERRIFIELD. Town inc in 1819.

Bluebanks PO: Estill Co. See Wisemantown.

Blue Diamond: Perry Co. 1 ½ miles NNW of Hazard, now just a small settlement; Named for Coal Co. PO opened 28 June 1916, Hiram H BRADEN, pm.

Blue Heron: McCreary Co. Abandoned coal town, 5 ½ miles SW of Whitley City. Built 1936 by a coal co, named for a type of coal. PO est in 1936, Closed along with the town.
Blue Hole: Clay Co. KY 11, 2 miles up Collins Fork, 3 miles S of Manchester. PO Est 4 Aug 1916 by Charles S TOWNSLEY, named for a deep pocket Of blue water.

Blue Licks Spring PO: Nicholas Co. See Blue Licks.

Blue Licks: Nicholas Co. On Licking river, west of US 68, 7 miles N of Carlisle. 1773 found Major John FINLEY here from PA, a surveyor. Known for the Battle of Blue Licks foung 19 Aug 1782. PO est here before 1805 as Lower Blue Licks.

Blue Moon: Floyd Co. Extinct po on KY 2030, 11 miles SSE of Prestonburg. PO est Dec 1936 by Alex L MEADE, local school teacher, named by his Daughter for a brand of perfume she got for Christmas.

Blue Spring: Trigg Co. 5 ½ miles WSW from Blue Spring Creek/Lake Barkley State Park. Named for the blue of the water. No po.

Blue Spring Grove PO: Barren Co. See Hiseville.

Bluestone: Rowan Co. Extinct po, ¼ miles N of US 60, 3 miles WSW of Morehead. Est as Freestone about a mile W of current location on 16 Apr 1883, Henry MARTIN, pm. Moved and renamed in 1920.
