Hi, I'm looking for information on Nancy Jane Stanley, born in 1750, Virginia, and died in 1795, Virginia. She is my sixth great-grandmother. Many of her's & Old Booker's descendants live in Eastern Kentucky, so that's why I'm posting here.
A lot of people have said that Nancy Jane was a mixed race woman, primarily Native American and English, but I have reason to believe she is actually of Indonesian descent rather than Native American descent.
I've done a lot of research and traced her paternal side back to a woman named Soetji Vanderculin, 16?? - 1719.
To my knowledge, Soetji is an uncommon name given the place she was born. Her last name sounds possibly Dutch to me, and she was born in Pennsylvania, so why would she have such a peculiar first name like that? I found out that Soetji is an Indonesian name. Maybe Soetji's father was Dutch or something of the sort, and her mother was Indonesian or of Indonesian descent.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
