I am a descendant of Henry B Staines and Janet McIndoe. They are my 4th great grandparents. Their daughter, Jessie Staines married Benjamin L. Swope of Hagerstown, Md. B.L.'s brother, the Rev. Dr. Swope, officiated. The Rev. Dr. officiated at the funeral of Steven Foster in Pittsburgh at one point. They were married in Chicago where B.L. owned a queenswear store called Swope and Hubble. After five years B.L. moved back to Louisville, Kentucky and became the general freight agent for the Louisville and Nashville R. R. Company. Later he became the Editor of "The Manufacturers and Merchants Advertiser." A frequent contributer to the local papers, he wrote a series of witty sketches under the byline of "Curmudgeon."
Jessie and Benjamin had six children:
Jessie 1860-1937 = George C Norton 1839-1912
Cornelius E 1861-1936 = Jennie L Tabb 1861-1919
Catherine 1865- = Crittenden Marriott
Sallie 1868-1948 = Chapman Joyes
Thomas S 1871-1936
Eliza 1875-1927

All the best in your family research,
Kathy D
