Lyn,

The records of St Louis Church refer to Jacques as "port captain" or "captain of the port" in almost every baptism or marriage entry involving him or his family.

He died 6 May 1773 and his funeral entry refers to him as "Chevalier of the Royal and Military Order of St Louis, captain of the fleet of the King of France and former captain of the port".
