In reference to Louis DuVernay, I think the biggest trouble is we all believed that he was born at the Natchez Post. I have recently read information to put this to rest it is not so that he was born at the Natchez Post. I fact their father was a wealthy man who helped to rebuild France and went be the name of Vernay until he was knighted by the King of France XIV for his good deed. And it was Paris, that came with his brothers Louis & Antoine and perhaps their sister came to. Paris, to make a long story short didn't agree with John Law and they had a difference of opinion. Because of the lands that was agreed upon before arrival. Land was given to persons with wealth in hopes to start new colonies. If I remember the book was the La.Historical Quarterly. Tells of this concession and the people in it. Also a book by Glenn Conrad First Families ,I think it is.
I too am a descendant from Louis DuVernay. And one should take note that the name started off being Vernay and DuVernay and slaves were allowed to spell it Duvernay and they had quiet a few of slaves mostly owned in the end it seems by Aimee DuVernay Bailey Lartet.
