I have just started researching the Blueye line for Tommy Blue Eyes and other family members. To put it as briefly as I can, Tommy is the son of Jacob Blueye, the son of Adolpe Blueye, the son of Amos Blueye, son of Isaac Blueye of Louisana. I haven't read all of your information, but it looks as if you have family in common. If you would like more information or have information to share, I would enjoy hearing from you.
Lanette

I am from Corinth, Alcorn County, Missisippi and have a 4 1/4" X 6 1/2" photo ( made in Corinth at W.H. Rowsey )that belonged to my great-grandmother. Her name
is Nancy Ella Voyles (b. 1877 to d. 1979) that married Benjamin Franklin Hardin (b. 1876 to d. 1964).

About 1 years ago I had another Hardin lady (that was in her 90's) ID the photos for me. She ID'ed this photo as Rob Richie. I have found other Richie (Richey)family members, but not Rob. At this time, I am not able to scan the photo, but hope to ASAP. Anyone know about this Richie, please contact me. I know most of these Querys are more than 5 years old, but hope someone is watching. THANKS--Ron

Mertha Lyons b 1891 Daughter of Sarah Jane McCullough Dowies Simmons Lyons

I am looking for information on a Mertha Lyons who was the last child born to Augustus Lyons and Sarah Jane McCullough who first married William Dowies then Valentine Simmons and finally Augustus.

Mertha, Sarah and Augustus are listed on the 1900 census as living in Oberlin. The trail stops cold at that point.

Sarah had her first child in 1858 and Mertha in 1891, so that's quite a span! Augustus died in 1902 and Sarah seems to have lived in relatives after that, so I am wondering if some other family member took Mertha in or what happened?

Thanks for any help.

I'm just now, 2013, accessing your inquiry of 2009. I, too, am descended from these same Richey families. William and Hannah's son, William, b. about 1824, is my direct line, and his daughter, Eliza, was my grandmother. Lots of history of this family after they moved to Texas. After Wm., Sr., died, his wife, Hannah, married James Simmons. She died in about 1866 in Harris County, Texas, but was very active in helping her surviving sons acquire land grants. If you have more info by now, or if you feel I could help you further, my email number is vmn130@windstream.net.

i've been trying to piece together all these Blueeyes and their relations and have had a little bit of success.

1910 Census
Police Jury Ward 1; District 28; Hickory Flat, Calcasieu, Louisiana
Pg 86 of 86

1) Blueeyes, Obe	1842; Head
2) Sal, Mary 	1889; Dau
3) Sal, Jennie 	1910; Gr-Dau
4) Sal, Oscar 	1888; Son-in-law
5) Blueeyes, Elwa	1883; Head
6) Blueeyes, Seley 	1870; Wife
7) Blueeyes, Lannie    1898; Dau
8) Blueeyes, Eddie 	1902; Son
9) Blueeyes, Lang 	1904; Son
10) Blueeyes, Bruce 	1908; Son
11) Sal, Pier	1860; Head
12) Sal, Edwin	1899; Son
13) Johnson, Betsy	1830; Head

i have tentatively corrected those names which i knew were misspelled or were legible enough to make a guess.

the surname Sal i believe is probably Sol or Saul;
Mary's name was Nory but it looked more like Mary to me, i'm not sure;
Lannie was listed as Tannie (i'm not real confident that this is Lonie, but it is the only daughter listed ...);
Eddie was Edder;
Lang was Lony;
and Bruce was Buce.

still digging hoping to find more clues but nothing else so far.

Bruce is the only one of this branch of Blueeyes that i have fairly complete documented records for. as with my direct Blueeye ancestors, nearly all of them dropped off the radar and have left me guessing. of course, every new record has a different spelling (or mispelling) of my family's surnames, when they're legible at all; which makes it all the more challenging.

on a related note, i've posted on other threads regarding the Blue Eye name and how a good many of them took the surname Obe somewhere along the line. i know that it was fairly common for a son to assume his father's given name as his surname, and it took me a long time but i finally found a missing some evidence to confirm that one or more of Obe Blue Eye's descendants took Obe as their last name. there are a couple of people whom i suspect may be Obe's offspring due to circumstantial evidence but i have yet to find anything to confirm it. Elwah maybe his son; but he could also be a nephew or even a cousin. i have some records for various Blueeyes and Obes if anyone is interested i will pass them along.

now, i have a couple questions regarding Lonie's daughter, Laura Brown or Austin, and her father (?) Tolton / Talton Victorian. Tolton is easy enough to find, but i haven't found any records linking the three of them, and unfortunately haven't found any further hint of Lonie after 1910 so far. it might be helpful if i knew a bit more about Laura, like her date of birth, full maiden name, married names, etc. at least one person says that she died when Laura was 3 days old, and if that's the case then knowing when and where exactly Laura was born would help narrow things down considerably.

like most families, there is no lack of conflict information out there regarding this family and their kin, and i'd like to separate the unsubstantial hearsay type "facts" from the documented ones if possible. there is a post which names Elois Blueeyes from Beaver, Louisiana as the father of a Pocohontas Blueeyes aka Laura Brown born January, 1929 but this seems to conflict with other posts and information i've found, so i'm confused.

one final note about Obe Blue Eye and his son John.

from "Census of the Alibama [Alabama] and Koasati [Coushatta] in Polk County, Texas 1910, with Names and Clan Affiliations”

John Obe is listed on two of the census records with a "?" for clan affiliation (none of the Choctaws have this, only the Coushatta & Alabama)

and on the last page there is a note:

"In the (?) village, all are Choctaw except one family of Alibama, Obe Blueye is chief of this town."

which is really cool, but confusing, since he is on the 1910 census in Louisiana. and although i have nothing further for John Obe after the 1910 Federal Census, i do know his wife died in Allen Parish, Louisiana on December 4th, 1917. i’m fairly sure John died in Louisiana, although some of his kids did relocate to the Coushatta Reservation @ Livingston, Texas or to the Choctaw Nation. still, neat little bit of family history.

ok, i'm done rambling for tonight.

Re: lost family

I have no researchable data to share, but am very familiar with those last names in that area of Louisiana, from the stories of my great grandfather, Julius Thompson, and his ife Willie Thomposn. He,like most of his family was illeterate...so maybe his oral histories will give you some clues. First off, I think it is a supposed Melungeon name, or Redbone as we say back home, and you can look that up if you don't know what it means. So, with that said, it would tie the Buxton and Doyles together, as well as my Thompson family, which is directly related to the Doyles. Also, Julious was the oldest of the 6 or 8 Thompson brothers if I remember correctly. I know that most of them were deceased by the time of my birth in 64. Uncle Buddy was still alive and I think an uncle JIM. There is a fairly heavy native American heritage, mostly thought to be either cherokee or other indian from the area. (there is actually a small Clifton choctoaw community near gardner which is just west of Alesxandria on highway 28 which is right in that area) Doyles are first cousins. The branches of both those families lived near Alexandria, Louisiana but mostly in Allen Parish, around Glenmora, Oakdale area, which is VERY RURAL. Most were involved in timber industry. Some of the grave yards are unmarked and not known except to family. Occupy #1 Primitive Baptist Church and Occupy #2 with their graveyards may be findable in google maps, but they did not even have electricty there in the late 80s with any reliablity, but there is another that I have not seen since....maybe the mid 70s? It was located near Cherry Winchee creek.( and I suspect was meant to be Cherokee Wench).Not sure of spelling, it was a dirt and gravel road then. and it was on the side of the creek and had graves that went back pre civil war. Family there included Doyles, McGintys, Thompsons, I dont remember any Buxtons, but I was young, and also GOINS (which is actually pronounced GOOOOinns by old timers.) The Goins also have a large family group near the the Pollock area, including their own family cemetery off of Dyson Creek Road if I recall correctly. I also know that the family tends to be very closed mouth about their heritage, probably due to the illeteracy and the mixture of races as being part anything but white, indian or otherwise, was considered very shameful. The earliest THOMPSON ancestor I can recall ever being spoke of was BLACK JACK Thompson. Jesse Doyle is the earlies DOYLE I can recall. Aunts Bess and Birdy were Doyles if I recall correctly. Not sure if any of this helps, but I do hope so.

Thanks for getting back to me.I dont know much about my dads dads side but very little because my dad was taken to live with his aunt(moms sister) and uncle at a young age.Grandma Bea came around when she could but nobody talked mush about Irvin or that side of the family. My mom and dad said that long ago after he was married to my mom(grown), that a man came to have a conversation with him for questions about his life. He told my mom later that he thought it was Irvin.Later on, it was stated that Irvin was remarried and didnt want his new family to know about that part of his life. Most of what I know is from little information from internet with the little to go on. i didnt know about Irvin was married to Vonie. I knew about Peggy and Connie being his daughter and that Connie was married young to Mickie Washburne and had two sons name Brian and Nathan Cavallaro. Brian is on my facebook but i am unable to get him to except me as his cousin without verification but I am greatful that I can see how him, his wife, and son is doing. Brian's uncle Michael Washburne might have more information on that family and so will Brian for you since you are not an "outsider". Connie has a facebook also but idk if she gets on alot. You can email me if you want. I also knew about some of the other information you had provided. If you have any pictures of Irvin, please show me if you like. I will try to do more internet searching of what else i can find and good luck to you as well.

Connie Lynn

Unforntunatly I do not know to much either. I do know definitly that there was three siblings, Irvin, Gladys, & Joseph. There mother was Eve(eva,Ave,Ava) Fontenot. I have found her name spelled so many ways and their father was Joseph Dresmon Landreneaux. But thats where it gets sticky. I havent been able to really find much on him and according to the 1940 census, he had died sometime between 1930-1940. He is on the 1930 census with Eve, Irvin, Gladys, & Joseph. I havent found anything on the 1920 census but on the 1910 census, he is shown to be married to Meletine Jeansonne or Johnson and they have 3/4 kids. My grandmother Hazel (joseph)wife, said that as far as she knows, that their father was hit by a car sometime in 1930s and died but I havent been able to find anything to support that. I did find a death record showing he died in 1943. They were all from the mamou area. Also, it gets difficult tracking their father down cause his name seems to change drastically over the years. From Joseph D., Joseph Drasimond, Joseph Drenson, and even Trasimond Landreneau.

Irvin was born 10-15-1916 and died 11-4-2001. He is buried Elwood Cemetary in Bowie Tx. He has a daughter named Connie Jean Landreneaux born 8-21-1965. He was married to Vonie Key, who died in a car wreck, and then he married peggy funchess. When I asked my grandmother about his son(hank), she didnt remember anything about him but she may not have known about him either.

Gladys Landreneaux-Havent found to much on her either. I believe she is the same Gladys Landreneaux Louviere (9/4/1920-4/6/1971) buried in jennings, la. I know she had a daughter named Geneva but thats are far as i get with her.

Joseph(my grandfather in law)(8/5/1924-6/16/2005) married Hazel Adkisson and they had 5 sons, Robert Eugene, Danny Ray, Johnny Dale, Irvin Wayne, & Joseph Lynn. Joseph also has a daughter, Jane Dowers.

My grandmother Hazel didnt know much about his family except they used to have a reunion every year down south louisiana and that his mother Eve couldnt speak english, only french. According to a grave search, there is a Desmond Landreneau buried in Mamou Protestant Cem. in Mamou but unk where Eve is buried. I do have a copy of Irvin's delayed birth certificate i can email you if you would like.

As you can tell, I dont have very much definite information on anyone past Irvin, Gladys, and Joseph but I am just getting starting and I am determined to find out who is who.

Hello dlandreneaux.
My dad Warren "Hank" Landreneaux Sr did not know too much about his dad(Irvin). Even though he didnt have a choice. He really wanted to be involved. My grandma Bea Sale( who you also saved a picture of) moved him to Oakdale to her sister(Vernie's) house where they raised him. I know little information myself. If you can please share with me, that would be great. I have family who I would love to know if I can. I hope you read this or maybe someone can pass it to you.
Thank you very much,
Connie Landreneaux

Just starting to research our family. Warren H. Sr's father, Irvin, was my husbands grandfather's brother. His name was Joseph Landreneaux b. Aug 5 1924 in/around Mamou, La to Joseph & Ave Landreneaux. Irvin was married to Peggy and had a daughter, Connie Jean. If you have any information on Warren H. Landreneaux's grandparents or other family members, it would be a great help.

i got a chance to meet Dora in May of 2010. i felt very blessed because 39 years old and adopted and had been looking for my family since i was 16 but didn't meet my biological parents for the first time until about 5 years ago; unfortunately by then most of the older generation had already passed away. one of my aunts had told me that isaac was still alive and i knew that he lived in either Washington or Alaska, but not much more than that.

i've not had an easy time trying to get anything or a "personal" out of my new found family (i.e., pictures, stories, etc.), so any information, or stories or pictures that you may have i would appreciate it very much.

thank you.

2 infants (no parent names given) answer. I was told by my parents that the infants were twin daughters born to my great grandparents, Jeptha & Inez McFarland. There surviving children were Earl Cloveve McFarland, Thurber Buford McFarland and Minnette McFarland (all of which are deceased now). My father was Thurber McFarland and my mother is 92 years old and is still living (June Smith McFarland). I remember going to the cemetery as a child to attend my great aunt, Minnie's funeral (1st wife of R.E. McFarland - Mildred was his 2nd wife). I can barely remember my great uncle,Osie Otis McFarland or my daddy's cousin's wife, Hazel Maxine McFarland. I did meet with my cousin, Felix, Hazel's son, a couple of years ago and genuinely enjoyed speaking with him as he was a wealth of family information. I don't know much about my father's family history but, I would love to know more.

Hello. My name is Grace and my dad is Isaac Roberson, son of Ida Blue-eye and Tobias Roberson. He was born in Oklahoma in 1923. His older sister, Dora Bill (Roberson) is still alive. I have a picture of Ida Blue-eye that my dad has. I also have a few family pictures that he has kept. If you have any questions I can ask if he remembers anything. His memory is still good.

I know this is an old post. But if you haven't found any info. you are looking for yet. go to www.findagrave.com It is A great Genealogy website. search by their name,Cemetery name,Parish,or town. if their name is listed there is A link on there to request a Photo of the headstone. If they are not listed don't give up ask one of the Volunteers in the area to do some research for you. and Search their names for that area they may be in another cemetery also. I volunteer for Find A Grave, and I was born in Oakedale. but I live in Texas now or I would do it for you. I hope this helps you. thanks Todd Townson
