Jones and Lavalais connection?

Classification: Query
Surnames: Jones, Lavalais
I am also trying to connect the "Jones" family in my tree to the Lavallais (Lavalais?, Lavalie?, Lavallee?, Lavaley?, Lavallair?) family. The 1900 census shows my 3x great grandfather Paul Jones living with his wife and children in Cheneyville which is in Rapides Parish. It shows that his nephew, Forrest Lavalie, was living with him at the time. I went back a lil further and found Forest Lavalais as a child on the 1880 census living in Avoyelles Parish with his parents, a "Taussin Lavalais and Annette Lavalais". My 3x great grandfather and his family were found 2 pages over on the same census. I'm trying figure out if "Lavalais" or a variation was my 3x great grandmother's maiden name (first name Edvise), and therefore Forrest may be HER nephew or if he is indeed Paul's nephew and "Jones" is perhaps a name they just gave themselves? Does anyone have any information on any Jones in Avoyelles prior to 1880? I am having a very hard time researching this Lavalais surname because I have seen SO MANY different variations! Thank you for any info you can provide!
