It has been some time since you posted this, but I see you did not find much about the Williams family that met the Meltons. My Williams family owned a farm out in that area and there are Melton ancestors back in the tree, mostly from the Virginia days, I think, back in 1600's and early 1700's. I think the farm was near Midway. They later moved into Bienville and Ruston. Electious (various spellings) Williams was my great grandfather's father. His son, John Wesley 'Tobe' Williams was alive at that time, but I think he would have been in town by then, as he was Clerk of the Court in Ruston. The farm remained in the family until my grandfather died, and my dad sold the farm to cover debts incurred by his brother, J.W.Williams. I would be happy to compare notes if you are still searching.
