A descendant of the John Hodges family, whose burial plot is in Camp Zion Cemetery, Bossier Parish, LA was a student of John Ardis Cawthon at LA Poly Tech in Ruston, LA in the 1930's. This student, whose first name is unknown, was very interested in William Vanarsdel, who had been murdered in 1867 and whose grave was quite near to the Hodges Burial Plot. John Ardis Cawthon had done a sketch of the Hodges Plot to accompany an article in "Among the Tombs" about the Holdges Family.
Mr. Cawthon also interview Lucius Vann or Vanarsdel, a former slave of William's about the murder, in 1833-34, which was published in Pine Cones, a Student Publication of La Tech.
I am trying to locate that student to see if he can tell me more about the interview and the man Lucius Vann. The student's parents were friends of the Cawthon's.
