John Jacob Ryan (b. 1713 in Ireland) and his wife Sarah Wittenbury (b.1717 in Ireland) came to the "new world" ..not sure what year or what part of Ireland they are from. (that is the next thing I need to work on). I do know their son, Daniel Ryan was born in Florida or Georgia.Daniel married Marguerite Barclay and had a son John Jacob Ryan who was born in Pensacola, Florida (called Escambia territory) in 1768. Daniel named him after his father. John Jacob Ryan (2) married Mary Anne Hargrave and had 14 children. As you can see they were moving west as the kids were born in and around St. Martinville. As adults they all ended up in and around Sulphur. They had all girls except two.....Jonh Jacob Ryan, Jr. and Issac Ryan (he died at the battle of The Alamo and was close friends with James Bowie and followed him to Texas) The girls are : Christeen Ryan (b. 1824), Ann Ryan (b.1797), Adeladie Ryan (b. 1807d. young), louise Ryan (b. 1793d. young), Sarah Celeste Ryan (b. 1801), Elizabeth Ryan (b. 1806), another Christine Ryan(b. 1811)( the one you are from), Mary Anne Ryan (b.1818), Rebecca Ryan (b.1810), Melissa Ann Ryan (b.1813), Artemise Ryan (b. 1804), Susanne Ryan (b. 1799). I have not worked on this part of my family for some time so not totally sure how correct it is. Your Christeen Ryan was born in St. Martinville. According to some files she was married twice...Onesime Hebert m. 1825 in Lafayette ...then...Onezime Royar in 1837 in Opelousas. I am related to three of the girls....Rebecca, Susanne and Melissa. I do know that John Jacob Ryan, Jr. is considered The Father Of Lake Charles and Ryan street is named after him . There is a lot of history and info about his father ...John Jacob Ryan (Sr). It is written that James Bowie and his brothers took his advise of many business decisions.
I have lots of "stuff" on the family. I look up a lot thru history sources instead of just genealogy records. I live in a suburb of Housto ...so I spend time at the Clayton Genealogy Library. Let me know if I can help, however, I am still in the process of making all this correct. I will try to find out more about your part of the family.
