Hampton Stroud, son of William and Sarah Stroud of Chester Co. S. Car. who may have migrated from UK to Charleston, and rec. land in then Craven Co. (which later became Camden Dist. and Chester Co.) in 1768. Hampton was the fourth child in this family, with brothers William Jr., John, Thomas, *Hampton*, Hardy, Ransom, Erby/Yerby, Ancil and two sisters, Nancy (who married a Wall, then John Morris in Tenn.) and unknown sister m. unknown Kitchen.
Hampton Stroud served in Rev. and was wounded with musket ball in left shoulder, captured by British and kept in boat off coast in irons until end of War. He and Mary Wilson (poss. dau. of Walter Wilson mentioned in land record with Hampton Stroud in Chester co.) migrated first to Wilkinson Co. Miss, then Caldwell Parish, La. where he applied for pension for Rev. War service, he died in Catahoula Parish La. with sons Frederick Wall Stroud and William Stroud m. Sally Gready sister to Frederick Wall Stroud's wife Teresa Gready and daughters, Anna Stroud m. Stephen Wilson, James Stroud. Most of the Strouds of Winn Parish, La. tie into this line.
His brother Ransom Stroud with wife Sarah Wall migrated to West Feliciana Parish, La. along with sister Nancy Morris.
He moved to Natchitoches Parish La., and most of the Stroud families in Sabine Parish descend from him.
