I have a strong feeling that Samuel Mayes Grigsby may have owned most of the African American Grigsbys in Claiborne and Webster parishes. He owned at least 2 plantations in Claiborne Parish--one with 29 slaves and second with 24 slaves, totaling 53 slaves. His son Rhydon Grigsby also owned slaves in 1860. Has anyone of you search the estate, property or court records of Claiborne Parish to either prove or disaprove this. If so, reply to this thread and let me know your findings or feeling on this matter. I think that this may be my next move, since I am kind of stuck at this point. The people I will be searching for, which I am a decendant from is Dilcy Grigsby (daughter of Sam Grigsby),Dan Grigsby (son of Merritt Grigsby), Sophia Grigsby(unknown parents, husban may be either Gaston or William Grigsby) Let me know your thoughts on this.
