How to get Marriage Records

I've found some of the online information confusing for the marriage license copy requests... the death certificates are pretty easy.

I have a 70s era xerox of my parent's marriage certificate from 1948 and would like to get a better copy. I also wanted to see if the corrections were on the actual certificate or were on the copy. It has the signatures and is typed, but doesn't have the book or record number.

Is there a procedure to get a new copy by mail (and can I get the instructions) or do I have to go to the parish clerk? The state website mentions that records over 50 years are in the state archive, but I didn't see a link to request from there.

Thanks in advice... I'm a real novice with this and am too spoiled with all the online records :-)
