My great grandfather, Albert Gallatin Penny (parents James Penny and Nancy Lucy Kennard) was born in 1806 at the Plains in upper East Baton Rouge Parish near what is now Zachary, La. In 1830 he married Sarah A. Weston (East Feliciana Parish Computer-Indexed Marriage Records). However, subsequent records in East Feliciana list her as Sarah A. Kirkland and note that her father was Philip R. Kirkland whose widow's name was Nancy Kirkland. Jesse Kirkland and William Kirkland could be brothers. Penny family records indicate that Sarah was the sister of Emmeline Scott (daughter of Robert Scott and Martha Kirkland). I do find records of an Elizabeth Scott, wife of Thomas H. Scott, associated with the family. There is an East Feliciana record in a list of documents at the office of the Clerk of Court that seems to identify Sarah A. Kirkland, wife of Albert Penny, as Sarah A. Weston. However, that document is no longer available and could not be located. Albert and Sarah were planters in the Redwood Creek area of East Feliciana and had a number of children. Sarah A. Kirkland died in 1853 and Albert Gallatin Penny married Celia Adams of Pointe Coupee (Raccourci area) shortly thereafter, then Elenora Brown Henderson of Rapides Parish in 1866. He died in 1879. Does anyone have information that could unravel the Sarah Weston/Kirkland/Scott puzzle? I am also interested in information on the Foster family. Albert and Sarah's daughter, Ann L. Penny married James A. J. Foster in East Feliciana in 1848 and by the time of her mother's death in 1853 they were living in Mississippi (I do not know which county). Another daughter married into the Foster family as well. If you have further information, please contact me. I'll be glad to share what I have collected.
