We have a proceeding of the Police Jury for Dec 1845 in which a Black woman Lecide was emancipated. The document is signed by Sheriff Horace F. Voorhies. Lecide was the slave of Charles Leblanc. She was emancipated because of "good conduct and it has been satisfactorily proven to the Jury that said slave was the first to reveal the 'conspiracy of 1840'".

What is this alleged conspiracy in Lafayette Parish?
Are there any extant records of the Impartial still available for research in which this emancipation may have been posted for 40 days?

Thank you.
