I am looking for the burial place of E. (Edwin or Edmond) F. Mielly (1871-1915) -- his wife Jennie Cothran Mielly (1872-1943) -- and his brother Henry Vincent Mielly (died 1953).
E. F. Mielly's obit indicates that he was buried in Lafayette Cemetery.

These african americans, apparently family members were living in Vermilion Parish in 1900, & the 1920 Census had them there as well. This death of a young person is in the 1960's so I'm sure they wold not still refer to the location Le Poste Des Atakapas "Petit Paris". My guess this person died in this Parish, "paris" not spelled out, which I have seen on many records.
They also say its in Lafayette or possibLe St Landry But the Parish is not listed on the death cert. for 1960. ODD! MHO

(This map pins Paris as being in St. Martinville.) My best guess would be that it's one of those old time towns that got swallowed up by bigger cities.

You might ask on the St. Martin Parish board and also contact the area genealogy / historical society.

What year was this death certificate?
Also, this is kind of far-fetched, but here goes: Is it possible that the person filling out the death certificate just took a short cut and wanted to say that the person died in the parish (paris) as opposed to inside the city limits? I've heard older people put it that way.

This person died young and is not, therefore, listed in the SSDI. Perhaps someone who lives in Lafayette Parish would know where Paris is located.

Have you looked to see if this person is listed on social security death index?
That would give you the Parish in 1960.

No, it does not. I posted this message to the Lafayette Parish board because I had found a few mentions of such a place on line.

There was a post office called Paris in St. Landry Parish too, but it closed in 1880, so I doubt it would have been on a death certificate from the 1960s.

Apparently it's an unincorporated place, as it doesn't appear on maps or the US Geographical Survey (USGS). It is, however, mentioned on a death certificate.

Albert Cormier died in 1991/1992 and Irene Lavergne Cormier died in 1999/2000. They were buried in Rayne but I'm not sure who printed the obits.

Hi, I'm looking to see if anyone knows a way to look up ca 1990s obits? My grandpa Albert Cormier died in 1991/1992 and Irene Lavergne Cormier died in 1999/2000. They were buried in Rayne but I'm not sure who printed the obits.

I'm a Cormier and not only is my dad a Cormier, but my mom actually has cormier on her side too (from 150 yrs back before anyone starts thinking incest lol).

You might want to do some research in Rayne/Crowley. The Rayne cemetery is full of Cormiers, and from what I'm told you can get records for the Acadia parish Cormiers from the record room in the basement of the Crowley court house. I know you aren't looking for them in Acadia parish but they all came from the same family in the mid 1700s so you might find your lead there. I'm in the process of finding the rest of my cormiers from both sides and seeing where they split and branched off.

There was a Charles E. Krauss who died in Orleans Parish in February 1944 at the age of 34. If the Charles you're looking for was born in 1910, this could be him. You can get the death certificate from the state archives by giving them this information:

NINE SLAVES HANGED FOR INSURRECTION
A slave woman named Lecide was freed by her master for revealing plans in Lafayette and St. Landry Parishes. Nine slaves were implicated and hanged. Four white men were also convicted, but the law excluded the testimony of blacks against whites, so they were severely flogged under a lynch law sentence and exiled from the state [Puckett, E. P. “Free Negroes in Louisiana”].

First, thanks for posting the nice photographs to your Cormier family tree. I dowloaded and restored a couple of them, Mary B RODRIQUE and Henry "Aligator Art" CORMIER. I've attached copies for your possible use.

I am not descended from the Cormier line but my wife was previously married to John Andrew CORMIER Sr, first son of Henry Arthur CORMIER III and Mary B RODRIQUE and I am working on the Cormier line for my step-grandkids. Louise Thevenot Poinboeuf was my greatgrandfather's sister. The Thevenot's(7) came from France on the clipper ship Lemuel Dyer in 1851 to New Orleans sailing from LeHavre France. Joseph Thevenot was Louise's brother. She married a Poinboeuf.

My grandfather was Leroy J. Broussard, a very popular Cajun musician...actually, i am looking for any information, any stories about his life and i am also looking for any information on HIS parents, Ulysse Broussard and Clothile Royer- especially the names of their parents !
I am also very interested in my grandmother's(Verna Broussard) family, especially HER parents -Rene` and Zula Mae Broussard .

Does anyone out there remember a small mom & pop type shop on Johnston St directly to the right of Ascension Episcopal Church on Johnston St in the early '60's? The type of store where you go in to buy candy, cigarettes, etc. Very small.
