I'm looking for any information on my Great Great grandfather John McDonald, a Scottish immigrant in Louisiana, born about 1825. In the 1870 Census he was a farmer in Ward 6 of Lafourche Parish with his wife Ellen and his children John, Adam and Isabel. In the 1880 Census Ellen is in New Orleans with the children and she is listed as a widow. I can find no other definitive record of him other than the 1870 Census. I found a possible death record on the USGenWeb site for 2 April 1871 in Orleans Parish. No age, sex or color are given in the index. When I search the Louisiana Secratery of state's vital records index, it's not listed at all. I will probably send for the death record using the info from USGenWeb and hope the state archives has something. I'm not sure what my next move should be. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
