Thank you. My mother is still alive. My grandmother and aunt are buried there. I have no idea what funeral home/homes were used for them. It is my understanding that my grandmother purchased the plots years before she passed. I just need to verify this and find out where they are exactly. Thanks again.

Also, the Rawlins name is only mentioned 3 times and none put the two names together. Sorry, if you can give me another name, I will check again. A Clyde Russell was a past Mayor of Jena.

Hi,

Have you searched the 1920 and 1930 census for them? That would be my first thing to do.

The second to try to get a copy of the book "LaSalle Parish History, Families Past and Present". The LaSalle Parish Library did have some copies for sale. If no more are available, they do have a copy there, you may ask your local library to get a copy if they don't have one already. I looked through my copy for Rosa Russell and Rosa Rawlins but did not find her. The surnames are mentioned and may give you clues as to where to go from there. It is a great book for back ground and understanding how our families lived in the early days of Louisiana into the mid 1900's. If I had a scanner I'd make copies of the pages that mention your names, but I don't have one right now.

I'm sure the Library there will be happy to help you. I've visted the court house and library and found them all to be very helpful.

I hope this helps at least a tiny bit.

Hi,

I think you will be happy with your purchase. I have family in Winn, LaSalle, Catahoula, Franklin, Richland Parishes. While I was not lucky enough to find "my direct" lines in the book, it is a great read and helps with the background of the area. Plus there is always the hope of being led to another name and it is in the book! My surnames are Gilmore, Keen, Cockerham and Garner.

Please let me know what you think about it!

Lisa
lisagilmorelier59@gmail.com

I am looking for extended family on my Tullos side. My Grandfather's name was Joseph Wesley Tullos, who resided in Arkansas the majority of his life. He was married to Neva (Norman) Tullos. I would just like to know more about this line since it remains much of a mystery to me. If anyone has information I would be grateful if you could share it with me?

Thanks,
Alana Tullos

After both Earnest and Grace were deceased,Bertha and Harvey Louie took the two youngest boys,Cliff and Joe(Moe)and raised them. This is what confused you. This much I know to be true.
When Ernest Edward died in 1971, his obit listed sons Vernon, Jim, Henry, Clifton & Joe. No mention of a wife. When Clifton died in 1999, he listed brothers Vernon, Henry & Joe. Now this part has me confused. He listed step-mother Bertha, step sisters Betty & Dorothy Faulkner and step-brother Bill Faulkner. Who was the first wife of Ernest Edward? Why was Bertha not listed in Ernest's obit back in 1971? Obviously Bertha is the mother of the step-children. Why are they also listed as Faulkners, yet not in Ernest's obit? Were they Bertha's children adopted by Ernest? What was Bertha's maiden name?
Here are listings from Belah Cemetery. In section M-Row H-69 are Daniel F. & Flora H. Sasser Faulkner. She appears to be his wife. Does that name ring a bell?
Also in section M are Joseph E. Row I-69 & Ernest E. in Row G-69.
In section N are Edith Perkins Faulkner in Row H-69 & Grace F. Faulkner in row F-69. If Grace was married to Ernest, why are they in different sections I wonder.
Section M has Harvey Louie FALKNER in row F-70. There is another Opal Elaine FALKNER, but she is in section U Row F-30. Very puzzling. Hope you can help.
I'm in search of the location of GILMORE'S FERRY, which was located on "Little Creek" near Funny Louis Bayou" in Catahoula Parish in the mid to late 1800's (Now LaSalle) I know it was on Little Creek and possibly where it nears a bayou named FUNNY LOUIS.

There is also a mention on this web page http://www.lahistory.org/site27.php under a article about Norris Jones that he oversaw "GILMORES FERRY-FUNNY LOUIS PUBLIC ROAD". I'm fairly sure it was on my gggreast grandfathers property, but which property? where? How was it used? Personal use? Public Use? When was it in use? I have so many qyuestions and the most important is where was it?

STAFFORDS LANDING is named as the place of my great grandparents marriage in Catahoula and may have been in what is now LaSalle Parish.

ANY and all info is appreciated!

Does anyone know if Pine Grove has good early church records? Mainly I'm looking for burial information for the cemetery. I have many lines buried out there, but I'm particularly interested in the death of Catherine Smith and her husband William Sr. in the late 1800's. Catherine is said to be buried under the marker that the inscriptions have been worn away completely. William's grave is unmarked. William was an early Deacon in the church. Thanks!
