Dear Tammy Hays,

Saw one of your old Ancestry Postings and think you will like these records which have been recently posted on familysearch; they are PRIMARY as in copies of the original documents, ie Condederate pension applications. (WIll post this answer on ancestry just in case also.)

There is one for Olivier F/T Rachal which I found while looking for another Rachal; I started reading it b/c his wife's maiden name looked like a "bastardization"/miswriting of the French name "FREDIEU" which I'm not sure how it's pronounced but a bunch of them married into the Rachal families and related families. (I may be wrong, but who knows.)

There is even a typed record (various typed records interspersed over the years as the widow ages and then dies) with a record for an Olivier "Levi/Levy" Rachal mentioned in the calvary unit....which I think you said is a nickname what he went by.

I'm not sure at the end if the witnesses after Tabitha Elizabeth Frideaux/Friday/Fredieu? Rachal's death is recorded are in fact relatives or just neighbors/friends/random folks witnessing records, but DO LOOK at the WITNESSES and FRIENDS listed on the PENSION APPLICATION itself that she writes b/c those are often neighbors and relatives.

The pension application gives their wedding date and place TOO

Here is how to find it and read it; it is downloadable and saveable; printing may be difficult from familysearchitself...do some test runs and conserve your ink and paper.

OKAY: The fastest way to find it is to google
"Louisiana confederate pension APPLICATIONS" and "Familysearch"

Then when the familysearch page comes up, near the top, is a small blueish line that says ACCESS THE applications. CLICK that small bluish area...

THEN GO TO the section between last namesPROVOST and RAINS; your application is approximately the images between numbers: 1144 and 1151 (the little gray arrows around the image number are clickable to go forward and backward)

OH: This is from the LA STATE DATABASE RE OLIVIER AND WIDOW:

Reel: CP1.114 -- Microdex 4 -- Sequence 3
Target card: RACHAL, TABITHA ELIZABETH

Applicant Information & Name Variations:

RACHAL, TABITHA ELIZABETH (FRIDAU?)
Parish: NATCHITOCHES -- Pages: 7

Soldier Information & Variations:

RACHAL, OLIVIER T.
State: LA
Branch: CAVALRY
Unit: 2ND REGIMENT
Company: CO.
If your ancestors were soldiers in the Presidio, it is known that most of them came from northern Mexico. I have seen a list of cities that the soldiers originally came from. Off the top of my head I know Saltillo was one of them. I also believe Monterrey was another city mentioned but you will have to look. I know I saw the reference online but don't remember what it was. I believe I came across it when doing research on los Adaes.

~ Ralph Pacheco

That cemetery is on Hwy 1225 in Clarence. Coming from Natchitoches on Hwy 6, turn right after you pass the Circle N Convenience Store. Go about a mile. After you pass all the houses on the right and a little swamp, starting looking to the right. It's visible from the road. About 50-75 yards off of the road.

With your help I believe we can recontruct this family. I had information on Burwell B. Bassett and family but it was so far sketchy. One of his sons was a Noah W. Bassett. I believe another to be Robert Houston Bassett.

You can contact me directly at bassettgenealogy@gmail.com to exchange more information on this family.

57B6. Burwell Bassett, son of William Bassett

Burwell Bassett, son of William Bassett, was born about 1803. He lived with his mother in 1821 in Saline, Settlement, Parish of Natchitoches. He married (1) before 1830. He married (2) Pernecy W. Wyatt on 16 Jan 1843 (OPM). He was a resident of Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana at the time of his second marriage, recorded Ouachita Parish, Conv. Bk. H, P. 287. Pernecia Wyatt, daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth (Hagler) Wyatt, was born in 1812 in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana. She died in 1864. She married (2) Mr. Radescich after the death of Burwell Bassett.
Also found in Ouachita Parish marriages is Susan Basset to Jeremiah Grisham on 31 Oct 1844. This could be a daughter of Burwell. They were the only Bassett family here in this time period.
(OPM - Ouachita Parish Marriages)

1830 Federal Census of Ouchita Parish, Louisiana
Burwell Bassett 0000100-10010 No slaves

1840 Federal Census of Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana
B.B. Bassett 210001 - 020000

57B61. Susan Bassett - born before 1830, married Jeremiah Grisham on 31
Oct 1844 in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana.

57B62. Daughter Bassett

57B63. Son Bassett

57B64. Son Bassett

57B65. Son Bassett

Delilah Folsom Puzzles

Another version of Delilah's history is told by her Cloud descendants of Louisiana. They say she was born at Grand Ecore, Louisiana. Her granddaughter, Delilah Cloud wrote this history around 1935:

"David Fulsom came from Holland married a Miss Darkus in Holland came up Red River from New Orleans to Grande Core and Delilah was born there Dec 31-1808. Two Indians told them of a trail that led to Hot Springs Ark., they went there and built the first house. And tried to get Deeds to the land but Government would not give deed so David and wife died there. They had 5 Daughters 2 boys. Mahalah married Kepler. Lottie married Burell Busset. Delilah married a man near Hot Springs (in other Cloud family data he was said to be a Mr. Campbell). She was Divorced then married Noah Cloud Sr. Stephen died near Campti of Swamp fever. Eb married Jennie Lee and moved to Houston Tex. Lottie Busset had 5 children her daughter Lottie married a Dentist McCornie from Ala." (The original is in possession of Bruce Evans in 1999)

In a letter from another of Delilah's granddaughters, Mary Izora "Manie" Cloud Stothard, written in 1938, she gives her version: "The Folsoms...came from Holland. Greatgranpa Folsom died and his widow married a Davis. I don't know if she had any Davis children. She had two sisters, Mrs. Hughs, Mrs. Basset. Mrs B died and Grandma Cloud raised her son Noah Bassett. One brother was a captain on a steamboat, he took sick fell overboard and was never found. Gma was born at Grand Ecore, La., so Mollie (her older sister) said." (Letter in possession of Bruce Evans in 1999)

I want to know his relationship to the Davis family.

Also in the Davis household was a lady named Sylva Smith 1805-VA/Want to know how she was related to the Davis & Freeman families.

Found Sidney Freeman in 1880 census/widower w/4 kids(Jinnie 1871, Willie 1876, Oscar 1877, Brooks 1880) plus cousin Thomas Freeman 1868

Found Sidney Freeman in 1900 census with wife(Rebecca 1859) and 7 kids (willie 1876, Nancy 1889, Arthur 1885, Walter 1887, John 1894, Celina 1889 plus grandson Willy Anderson 1900)

Now for what I can guess if he has a grandson with a different last name then the child belongs to a dau. who got married.
I realized that Millie Cortes was a typo on the census. Millie's last name was actually "Carter." She appears to be the daughter of Claiborne Carter by one of his slaves, named Ellen. She was born and lived in Clarke County, Alabama. If this is the same person, do you know which of her children you are descended from?

This Daugherty/Oxley line does not appear in my index at this time. Ambrose Daugherty married Jennie Lou Harper 1903 and These are first cousins once removed of mine.

Thank you. I do not see any Powells here that might be related to the Mississippi Powells in my family line.

Thanks Mr. Bacot. I have since found that that Bacot line is probably not related to the one I was looking for. I would be interested in any Harpers in that family. I could not access your website.

None of the names you mention are on my index of relations. Mollie had a sister named Emily Eudora Sanders my grand aunt who married a married a Moran.

Erin, I have on my Reunion Index (a Mac app) that I am somehow related to the Meltons and Britt of course was my great grandmother. Also I have seen communication between my mother Eva Bernice Cranford and the Kirkwoods and the Meltons, but I haven't been able to detect any blood ties.
