Where were 1878 yellow fever victims buried?

I am looking for the burial location for a man named Hugh Irvine who died of yellow fever on 24 Aug 1878. There is no information on his death certificate that tells where he was buried and he does not show up in any find-a-grave searches. This man was the chief telegraph operator in New Orleans at the time of his death. He was born in Ireland and his family was in London, Ontario, Canada. I know the body was not shipped back to Canada for obvious reasons. I'm wondering if there was a common place where victims without local families were buried during the 1878 yellow fever epidemic.
