I don't recall if you have gotten in touch with us here in the Genealogy Department (Ouachita Parish Public Library), but according to our newspaper index, Lewis (listed as Louis) M. Miller was shot in 1914. The index shows articles appeared in the News-Star September 9, 1914 (Page 1, Column 2), September 14 (Page 1, Column 6) and September 16 (Page 1, column 5). The notes field in the index just states "Killed by Unknown persons". We have indexed newspaper obituaries from 1825 - 1965. 20th century articles mainly come from the News-Star. When the News-Star is indexed to the present we will go back and index the Ouachita Citizen, the Monroe Morning World, the Monroe Dispatch and the Free Press.

As to maps, my boss Larry Foreman works in Special Collections, which does have many old maps of Monroe and Oauchita Parish. You may want to talk to him. The Library number is 318-327-1490.
